Transited El Capitain Passage on a favorable high tide and it was as enjoyable (and less stressful!) than the first time. John (who has many years of boating experience in Alaska) took the helm for the last half (when I offered it to him he said "only a masochist would want the helm in these circumstances" and then said "of course I would"!). He handled the rest of the passage beautifully and i got to see the scenery without my eyes being fixed on the center of the channel! After we entered Shakan Bay we began seeing several humpback whales and they escorted us much of the way to Protection Bay. W saw them in various feeding positions, including head skimming the surface and then head out of the water showing their baleen and distended necks before closing and expelling the water. Wnderful display. We carried on to St. John Harbor on Zarembo Island. Here was the first time we had other boats (4) in an anchorage, but there was plenty of room for everyone and good holding.
