Sadly it was time to leave the sanctuary of our Villa and the luxury of not moving from place to place on a daily basis – but move on we must. Driving from Normandy to the Loire Valley was a day in itself and we all agreed we would take the lazy option and stay 2 nights in the same place, venturing out to visit Chateaux from a central point. Hindsight's a wonderful thing.

We checked into one of the Etaps in Orleans- the centre of the Loire Valley and proceeded to plan the Chateaux we would visit.

When you are in Rome do as the Romans do so off to the Chateaus.

The first one was stunning inside and out, also interesting history, ie originally the residence of the mistress and when the wife found out chucked her out to the more modest estate up road and took over, got to love those wives.  Chateau De Chenonceau, well kept and worth every bit of the 10.50 euros to see both the Chateau and Gardens, also this can be booked for private functions, note to Morgan if you ever want to remarry or renew the vows this is the place for it.  Even the toilettes were impressive ask Vicki and Coraleen about the mens as apparently they both have a problem using the womens.

Chateau De Chaumont-Sur-Loire was a disappointment as I think the 9 euros collected at the gate is being used for something other than upkeep. Perhaps Vicki had the right idea by staying in the bar on the other side of the road??  Outside is impressive but inside it is a DIY project.  Also alot of modern art which just did not seem right, however the stables and the new garden added in 1945 is amazing with topiary to die for.  Also a fernery come indoor winter garden.
