Ah, so finally, after gazillion of years, here I come with an updated entry from my trip to Australia. Are you ready for it? Yes, it was a definitely a day to remember - for life. Where do I start...
When my friend Steve dropped me off at a gas station just outside of Townsville, I walked around it and found a truck driver willing to take me to Cairns. His name was Brendan and he had an awesomely painted truck - check it out here: www.hareremovals.com.au . He`s one of the very few truckies that don`t smoke, which made my journey much more pleasant. We drove for half a day, then it got late and we pulled over. He organized a "bed" for me inside of his trailer, which was pretty good - except that mozzies wanted to eat me alive (he had to leave 1 door slightly opened so I could breathe, otherwise it would have been way too hot for me!). He woke me up around 6am and we continued driving to Cairns, which is about 400km away from Townsville
We got to Cairns in the late morning hours and he dropped me off just outside of the town. I decided to have a Burger King branch, and the management did let me leave my backpack there, for the whole day. I went for a walk to find a camp site, but the one I found offered 25$ just for a tent site, which I thought was a certain rip off. Then I decided to hop on a bus and go to a beach. The bus driver took me to like completely other side of the town and way outside of it, which let me see some of the beautiful landscapes. After more than an hour of journey I eventually got to the beach. It was nice and quiet, except for me there was a Mexican family chilling out in there. I spent a couple of hours there, splashing in the water and then decided to take another bus back. It was late enough and I didn`t have time to properly see the town of Cairns itself - but to be honest from what I saw it wasn`t looking that amazing. So I got back to the Burger King and decided to head off. The sun was already setting down when I was raising my thumb up, not knowing where I`d sleep that night or where I`d go next. My plan was to just get out of the living area and find somewhere (cheap or free) to sleep. And after a few mins of walking down the road I a middle aged man pulled over his car. He asked where I was going and I said sth like "just trying to get outside of the town". He told me to hop in. Although the man was friendly and everything, my first impression was like "hmm a bit too free-spirited-looking, sort of a hippie or sth"? He was very tanned, had very long, grey dreadlocks and I must admit sort of mesmerizing eyes
We drove for just couple of mins when the man told me that they were Christians and asked me about my personal view at the religion. So I told him that I was a catholic, but actually feel more of a Christian and that yes I am quite a strong believer. I didn`t want to get into too much detail though, as I still wasn`t sure whether they were just Christians, or some sort of hmm... a secta. And also, talking about politics and religions have gotten quite a few hitchhikers into troubles and some of them even ended up getting kicked out of the drivers` car because of it. So, I kept myself tuned and listined to what the guy was saying (the girl kept rather quiet). After a few mins the man asked me if I`d like to come and stay with them overnight in their community house. "You are a hitchhiker, you see what the day brings and follow it" - he said. By that point I could trust those people well enough to go with them.
They lived by a lake, in a beautiful foresty area. Their house was wooden and simple, so were their lives
I woke up around 7am, after apparently having snored out laud all night long (poor my room mate Tabitha!). Two of the Jesus people (that`s how they called themselves) drove me to the outskirts of town. I sort of wished I could have stayed with them for a little longer, but I didn`t want to overuse their generosity. I hope that one day I will come to see them again though. I feel like God send them to me, not only to protect me, but also to help me to find myself in prayers again. Because one thing is certain - from that day on I started praying everyday, again - which I had neglected whilst on ships.
bedzie za niedlugo... obiecuje!
