Whoa!  Where did time go by?  Geez!  Is it June already???  It's like a wink dat has been fast forwarded to today...  Wish I cudda click onto 'Pause' button, eh!  I am countin' down 17 days left before I get aboard on a plane to Ghana!  'Lil more than 2 weeks from now but I gotta get my ball (actually my booty) rollin' NOW!  Thought I'd begin writin' my blog a bit before my volunteer travelin' begins.

Why volunteer abroad?  My friends, co-workers, and family thought it's an excellent idea.  Some of 'em said:  Yeah, right, ya don't walk the talk.  Watch out for warlords.  Wow, ya're brave.  Don't let the lion eat ya.  Life-changin' experience for ya.  Be careful.  Some asked:  Alone?  Is it safe over there?  Free to join?  Seriously, ya're going?  Can I go with ya?!  Well, first off, I LOVE travelin' and my lifetime dream has been nudgin' me nonstop to do the volunteerin overseas for a friggin' long time but hadn't made my booty moved nor was my time right.  Life is short, or ya can say to check off one from my Bucket List.   I am a teacher and wanna help deaf students in 'other country.  I knew dat volunteerin' abroad will be a life-changing experience for me. I wanna share my enthusiasm, time, skills, and energy w/ those peeps who need my help to effect a positive change hopefully.  My fave book genre is biography, which is primarily focused on people who travel to foreign countries & are of service; and how foreigners' lives are alike.  For instance, I am currently readin' 'Escape from Camp 14' by Blaine Harden.  In addition, National Geographic magazine was my 10 year subscription.  They are my inspiration. So, it pretty much sums up about my determination.

I believe I joined in Cross-Cultural Solutions (an international volunteer program similar to the Peace Corps for short length of volunteering while the Peace Corps requires at least one year) in February.  I made a video to give ya a glimpse of the CCS program and fundraising to help donate to my lifetime dream of volunteerin' in another country.   My deep gratitude goes to those peeps who have made donations.  If not for 'em, I wudda not have stayed in the volunteer program.  So, THANK YOU again!!!  Here is a list of what I have been preparin' for the trip and it may help ya prepare in case ya wanna volunteer overseas in the future:

*applied & deposited $ in the Cross Cultural Solutions volunteer program as I enrolled in
*correspond with the CCS program coordinator via videophones & e-mails to help me prepare
*read handbooks of checklist, policies, preparation, placement, and Ghana
*set up a video of fundraisin' (see the video above)
*launched a fundraising website and earned $3,998 (for meals, room, transportation, & travel
 medical insurance)
*purchased airline tickets
*made connections to deaf Ghanians via Skype, videophones, & e-mails
*befriended w/ a hearin' guy from Ohio, who has been w/ the Peace Corps and livin' in Ghana for
3 years and gives me tips before my arrival
*purchased a camera
*renewed my passport & received a visa
*got immunization shots (unfortunately my health insurance does NOT cover 'em since it's
 related to travelin')  :-/
*registered w/ the U.S. Embassy in Ghana for my own protection and travel warnings & alerts
*got Rx meds of anti-malaria to take it daily & anti-diarrhea in case I get REALly sick
*and not least try to pack lightly!

I REALly cannot say how thrilled I am and lookin' forward to havin' my dream come true.  Am I a 'lil nervous?  Ya bet!  How cudda not I be?  I am a spiritual person and I strongly believe in prayers. I try not let my fear to take me over.  Just enjoy my trip and think positively!

To be continued...
