Where I stayed
Illinois State Fairgrounds
We arrived in Springfield around 4:00 and I'm sure I took the longest way possible to the Fairgrounds Camping site, but we found it and it is beautiful, lush and green. Everything for the last couple days has been beautiful lush and green. They have not seen this much rain in years. We did have rain today just after crossing the Mississippi River. We haven't seen lightning yet... but we have seen flooding as we left Nebraska City. We stopped in Pittsfield around 2:30 to get gas and have a short break. What a gorgeous courthouse building. The tower stood out as we drove into town and we had to go check it out. It is the courthouse where Lincoln and Douglas debated, we also went into the Hotel where Lincoln stayed.
Now in Springfield, there is so much to see and do. I'm not sure how much we will get to take in but we will start with the new Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum. I think we can do a walking tour of the "Old" downtown area after the museum. We also want to see the cemetery where the whole Lincoln family is buried.
We do realize that the "West" is so young and the further "East" we go the more history there is. More than we can possibly take in.
I'm having trouble loading pictures but will try again. Tomorrow night we will be in New Ross.
Love to all,
Karen

The slide show is just amazing. Sounds like you are such a wonderful time, kind of trip Maurice and I like to take.
Land o Lincoln! I loved the quilt squares. E's mom would LOVE that! Incredible stuff. I think our favorite pic is still Sadie...what can I say, we're suckers for big, black labs!
