I needed to move on. I already had my sights set on Thailand - Carsten had flown into Bangkok and Matt (who I met in Auckland) was leaving for England soon so I had to go and say hello at least. Well, it was a 5 hour Super-VIP bus journey to Penang. I wasn't sat next to anyone, the seats reclined and it was, quite frankly, travelling bliss. And it only cost me 3 quid. Oh yes.

Upon arrival, and being the last one out of the bus I was greeted with a plethora of travellers standing around gazing expectantly into their Lonely Planets, presumably hoping that if they stared at it long enough it would teleport them to their chosen hostel. I joined them, and after a good two minutes decided that nothing was going to happen and we'd have to make our own way there.

Realising that 4 of us were going to the same road in Georgetown, we collared a taxi driver and managed to get him down to RM20. Grace and I checked into a guesthouse that a friend recommended to her, and the other two waltzed off somewhere else.
The next couple of days we just wondered around the town eating and drinking, with a little day trip up to Penang Hill to survey the land. The evenings were spent in a Mexican bar with a guy called 'Leg' who sounded like Barry White with a sore throat. His name, I imagine, is short for 'legend'. He played in the band that was performing and was trying to get me to go on stage - to which I replied with a grin "tomorrow, tomorrow". We booked a minibus to Krabi, Thailand and left in the morning.
