Strange to think that I left the Canadian winter just to get here in time for the Guatemalan winter. The winters are quite different. I think the only thing the same is the name. Every time someone mentions winter here, I think of snow. In fact it is just rain and lots of it.
It has been raining for the last couple of nights. Starts in the late afternoon about 3 - 4 PM and ends after midnight. The ground seems to soak it up by morning with just small puddles left. Actually most of it just runs down the hill into the lake.
Huge frogs are everywhere. Lizards are more noticeable since they come out and sun themselves in the morning. My Spanish teacher likes reptiles as much as my mother likes snakes. He thinks I am crazy trying to take pictures of them. In the school backyard there is a rock pile that is just covered with all kinds of lizards. It makes my teacher shiver every time he sees one. I bug him that there is one ready to crawl up his leg. Apparently they are quite poisonous. Haven't seen any snakes yet. Itching to try out the snake bite kit so I can tell Troy it worked. I guess I won't be telling anyone if it doesn't work.
Power outages and flickers are more common now. First rain of the season and the newspaper shows road crews cleaning mudslides off the highway and washed out bridges. Should really get moving but there's still lots to see and do here.
