Where I stayed
Breakfast at the Zoo!
Wake up at 6:30 for a pickup at 7:30 in the lobby. Singapore bus excursions all seem to follow the same pattern. Down to the Singapore Flyer where absolute chaos reigns as feeder busses pull in and disgorge passengers for each and every tour under the sun. Find your guide, get ticked off, paste your sticker on your shirts and wait for a bus. get on the bus and after all the strays have been rounded up, get going for your destination. I thought it disorganized until I hit Evan Evans tours in London and the famous Victoria Bus Station!!
On our way! The zoo is placed on 28 hA outside of the city and zoned never to be developed. That’s a lot of room for a zoo considering Royal Park Zoo in Melbourne is a little less!. This enables Singapore to have a nocturnal zoo as well as a daytime zoo.
Hustled off the bus, we headed straight for breakfast. We were starving as Melien and I had forgone our breakfast, thinking they would be straight out to the zoo and-into the chaff bags! Breakfast at the Zoo can be McD, Burger King or Hang Luis Rest. It’s not called that, I’ve forgotten the name (I’m writing this on Sunday). Great brekky, cooked everything Chinese and Western. While we ate the Orangoutangs had brekky as well!. You can’t pat them and don’t bring your food near them as the wee beasties are about 3-4 times stronger than a man and they would definitely want your food (and throw you away). Still you could have your picture taken with them while the Orangoutangs had their brekky. The photos were S$25 each but a great memory.
Walked around the zoo after breakfast and stumbled on a live show involving animals and very, very bad actors. Well they only had the Americans to learn from. I think they borrowed their ideas from the Wiggles adventures. Evil Mr Developer wants to chop down all the forest. What for? Money, what else? Good spirit Mrs Nature used the animals and the sympathetic humans to save the day and give the bad guy a dunking. Apart from a hhalf-serious try to look at the elephants we ran out of time.
Dinner in Chinatown
The Great Trishaw Race
River Cruise
