Tracy here.  Woke up early and took a ferry to Belize City where we splurged on a bus all the way to Flores, Guatemala.  It was well worth it and eliminated all of the problems and confusion we had crossing into Belize.  Belize city, or the port area, which is also the main tourist area, was brutal and one hour there was more than enough. The rastas are waiting on one side of an invisible line to pounce on all of the tourists who are exiting.  The streets are crowded and filthy.  Now we are in the island of Flores outside of Santa Elena on Lake Peten.  We had a wonderful hotel with a balcony and a view of the lake and the village across which is called San Miguel.  Its very chill here and we have made two big moves.  We have rented an apartment for a month and we will start Spanish school on Monday!  We met a local here named Carlos and he hooked us up with the apartment for less than $200USD for the month.  Carlos makes and bottles hot sauce and seems to walk around to his various family members and drink beer the rest of the time.  He speaks English and was a great help to us so we are
looking forward to enjoying some of his favorite beverage with him soon.  Yesterday we took a boat trip across the lake to another village called San Andres.  Our Capitan, Jesus, happened to know the director of the school so he called him up and he met us there.  We decided against this one because it was more of a community project where you learn to speak Spanish while being in a very remote village.  Their former school and all books were lost in a fire so they dint have much.  It was kind of sad.  I think I will send him over (on the boat) my books when I am done with them.  Later we ventured into the town of Santa Elena, tuk-tuks are every where here and we went to the market.  It sort of reminded me of Bangkok but not nearly as cool.  Flores is much nicer.  There seems to be plenty of things to do and see in the surrounding area so it looks to be a great place to hang for the next month.  Last night when we were watching the sunset over Lake Peten on our roof top deck we
met this fascinating man Eli from Israel.  We hung out and he told us many great stories about himself and his travels.  He is an accomplished photographer and wood carver.  We will keep in touch with him on the internet and have invited him to visit us in our new apartment in......... Flores.

Ola!
Am at work but it is really slow right now so am checking (as always) if there are any new updates/postings. Glad you had an easier time leaving BC than getting there. Guatemala looks very beautiful where you are staying; picturesque, colorful, and interesting. Love the pictures, Tracy, but where is Eric? Of course, this is your posting so you get top billing! By the way, what was for dinner. I love to read your blogs on the fantastic food you had in Tulum. Would like to hear about Guatemalan cuisine! Pura vida (does that count in Guatemala?) LOLM

Did you eat at Marins?
Hey babe, I've had such a busy week, and now my niece is here for a visit. I'm so glad to see your blog. I love the photos. I thought you were gonna spend more time in Belieze? It didn't sound so nice. Would you recommend Tulume? I heard there were some good ruins down there and that the water was warm and clear.

Love, Love, Love the Marins pub. Hey, that could be the name of our bungalow/restaurant/bar in Thailand...no need to decide now, just think about it. So..Guatamala, guess you will be there for at least 4 weeks. This spanish school, does it meet for class every day? do you have weekends off so you can travel around? I so wish I was there. I can't think of a better way of learning the basics and then living in the country of the language your studying! What kind of food are you eating...besides beer! is it really only beans/rice/tortilla's? I would think they would have fabulous seafood.

I am getting ready to drive down to Coloma & the south fork american river to meet James/Mark/& Alan aka...the three stooges! We haven't seen each other in at least 2 years +. We gonna paaaarty! I will come home tomorrow eve. Anna, my niece, is taking her first ski lesson today and we are all going to ski together on Sunday. Good clean family fun...which will be a good balance after being a dirty partier on Fri/sat.

Keep me in the loop...luv u long tyme!
