4 Islands Tour

We landed in Krabi, Thailand after a short 2 hour flight from Singapore. We had decided to fly to Krabi because the flights were quite cheap, and also it meant we could start in the South West of Thailand, and work our way up North. Or either just flit from island to island if the flooding meant we couldn't head further North. Only problem is, we didn't have a Visa, as we were never supposed to spend more than 3 weeks here. So we have only been given a 30 day stamp in our passports. This was a bit of a blow to our plans, so we'll have to try and figure something out! We still can't believe we're into the final 2 months of our travels. Our adventure has gone so quickly!

We caught a taxi to a place called Ao Nang, on the outskirts of Krabi. Ao Nang is on the coast, whereas Krabi is more of town. We were dying to get to a beach again, hence why we were giving Krabi a miss! The taxi cost us 600 baht for a 30 minute journey, which is the equivalent of about 12.50. So it was very good value.

We arrived at our accommodation, and were immediately impressed. It looked lovely, set within the rainforest surrounded by cliffs. We were shown to our bungalow which was equally lovely. We had opted to go for a basic bungalow, but still couldn't believe that it had only set us back 20 a night. Back in Australia we were paying more than this a night for a dorm room! We were lucky, because October is seen as low season in Thailand, so all accommodation is considerably cheaper. Just a shame the high season of November is coming round so quickly!

We ended up staying in Ao Nang for 6 days. It was a nice relaxed place to be, and we loved where we were staying. It was about a 25 minute walk to the beach and shops, but our resort ran a very regular transfer for when people didn't fancy the walk. There was also a gorgeous pool in the resort which we took full advantage of. We mainly spent our time in Ao Nang relaxing on the beach and by the pool. We also saw some absolutely beautiful sunsets whilst on the beach. We headed out one night for some food and drinks in Ao Nang, but mainly we ate in the hotel restaurant as the food was delicious and ridiculously cheap!

One of the days we booked a trip on a longtail boat which would take us round 4 famous islands off the coast of Ao Nang. We were picked up from our resort and taken to the beach where we could take the boat from. There were so many people there, we couldn't believe that we would all get on the boat. But they squeezed us all on, and the boat struggled across the ocean! We spent the day visiting these various islands and being given time to snorkel and sunbathe. The weather was very hot, and it was a great day.

We were very lucky with the weather while we were here. But one evening on our walk home from Ao Nang, we made it back just in time before a storm set in. The rain was unbelievable, and a river was soon running underneath our bungalow. A bit disconcerting when your bungalow is built on stilts! The claps of thunder and lighting strikes went on above us for a good hour, and soon after the storm started, all the power went off. We sat out on our terrace listening to the storm. We couldn't see a thing as it was pitch black. The only bad thing about the power going off though, was the fact that our beers were getting warm in the fridge!

We've booked a boat ticket to take us over to Patong in Phuket tomorrow. We don't really know what  to expect apart from the fact that it is much bigger than where we have been staying. Hopefully the weather will continue to be kind to us!
