Wow, so today has been insane. Where to start!

This morning it all started like normal, we were cleaning the enclosures when I hear Claire go, "oh my god, we have another baby". I ran over and yep Camila and Casper had a baby last night, right next to Sofia, Bam Bam and Lola their new baby. This is actually Camila's second baby as she had one in 2011, she immediately tried to bite it when it was born so it was taken away from her. This time she was faring better but as I am watching Lola the baby I am now watching Camila and Casper in case they go to attack their newborn. It all started off ok, the baby was really fidgety but Camila, who was trying to sleep, didn't try and attack it. Casper seemed to be getting on with it well and was licking it despite the baby clawing it to stop.

Then it all kicked off in the afternoon. Camila was clearly agitated and racing around her enclosure, the baby was not holding on well due to her speed and the fact she wasn't leaving any space for it. I had to step in at one point and hold a large bear under the baby because it almost fell off twice in one go. Camila was sort of nibbling/licking it but I thought it wasn't going to end well, and I was right. Camila maybe 20 minutes later bit the baby in the head as I was stepping in, it fell off because of it, luckily I was already there and managed to catch it and push it back onto her back. Every time the baby moved she tried to claw it off or bite it, I was protecting it with the bear while I shouted for help because it's hard to remove the baby from the mother as they grip so tightly. She eventually moved to the platform and curled up and I tried to stop the baby from moving too much, I managed to get the babies hands off but was using my free hand to hold the bear against Camila to stop her attacking it. Marcelo came in at this point and took the babies hands while I took off her feet and we took her upstairs to Judy. It really breaks my heart that we had to separate them but Camila clearly is not maternal (should probably stop having babies then, Casper and her will definitely be separated now). The baby is doing fine apparently, it's just sad that we have so many orphaned sloths without mothers and when one here finally has a baby she doesn't want it :( Poor thing.

On to something more cute now, whilst watching Sofia, Bam Bam and their baby Lola I saw her climb onto her father, very unusual in it's own right, and he is so great with her. Often the father will attack the baby, they are obviously not present with the child in the wild so it's hardly in their instinct. However Bam Bam let's Lola climb on him they will lick each other and then she'll go back to her mother Sofia. So adorable. Now that is a sloth family unit!

While all this drama/cuteness was going on while I was watching them I heard a crash. I immediately thought, oh god one of my sloths has fallen! Unfortunately I was right. It wasn't 'clinic sloth' like I thought it would be but 'machete sloth'! The poor thing had fallen, from god knows what height onto the floor, she was ok but a bit dazed. They're going to move her back into the clinic now, due to her losing her claws on one hand it might happen again and she might really hurt herself. After I was hand feeding her some leaves and she started to choke! I immediately opened her mouth and pulled it out of her throat and got bit on the way out (just on my nail and not with her canines so it is fine). The clinic sloth has also taken to an odd habit of drinking her urine, does this mean she's dehydrated, or just weird? She still isn't eating much so I'm now having to syringe feed her a mixture of blended almond leaves and water. I thought it was going to be a nightmare but she loves it! However the blended leaves get stuck in the bottom ALOT and due to the pressure it just goes everywhere! So yeah slightly messy!

You'd think the drama would end there but no, it continues. We also had a new wild sloth come in today. Her eye has been damaged, it looks like she has some claw marks so maybe she was attacked by something. It looks pretty bad and I think she might be blind in it, she is definitely a wild one though. They had some trouble getting her to the clinic and into a kennel, so at least she's not so badly injured that she isn't acting like a wild sloth anymore. At the same time the nursery downstairs got a new baby from upstairs called Milo and Ubu who was in the nursery has now gone back into the enclosures. So there was a lot of newcomers and moving around today. As some of my sloths have no names it is also even more confusing because I now have machete sloth in the clinic, clinic sloth in my section and new clinic sloth in the clinic. I need some names seriously!

So some normal stuff, we had no baby time today because it was cruise ship day where cruise ship passengers come in their coach loads. Usually they say some incredible stuff i.e. that the giant ground sloth went extinct due to Noah's Flood. Unfortunately there weren't really any gems today but one guy did say that they should have a big jungle gym out in the parking lot where everyone would have a sloth to hold...right. Missy and I helped serve them fruit and water later, and that was pretty much our contribution! Nick and Sara left today, it's going to be so quiet without them. Then again it is MY LAST DAY TOMORROW. What the hell. If I fall off the map in the next few days it is because I have slipped into a suicidal depression about not being here, just FYI. I'm going to see if I can stay longer as there is space at the moment but apparently Judy isn't that well tonight so there's no way I'm going to try and bother her with something that trivial. I've loved my time here again so much and I'm so not ready to leave! To be fair I don't think I ever will.

P.s. sorry there aren't many photos I was clearly busy!
