Ah poor Marcelo, I actually spend half my time here stalking him to check on my sloths. Today there were a lot. I even had to make a list to remind me what I needed done! Most of them are apparently ok but I'm worried about a few of them still so will definitely keep an eye on them.

He decided to give Gigia some vitamin shots and fluids today which he had to be sedated for. I got to carry him in and help, he's so tiny now and he looked so ill on the table it was really heartbreaking.

I also got to help out with Sarita, one of the other sloths i'm helping to look after, she weighed tons compared to Gi, heavy!

Actually managed to get in baby time with Matthew again, he's so tiny and cute. He would be very easy to steal!

During lunch I kept going back to check on Gi and was gently waking him up to make sure he ate some food. The only time he would eat it was when I was feeding it to him so spent some time doing that. He actually looks marginally better which make me feel sooo much happier. It's only a tiny difference but when you're spending so much time with the same sloths you get to know them really well.

After we finished, Christa, the new volunteer (who bless her got bitten by a sloth today), was sat upstairs when two German tourists came up and just yanked Buttercup (the sanctuary's original) sloth out of her hanging chair. I thought it might be Dusty at first as I could see what was happening down stairs but thought she would never handle Buttercup like that. Christa told them she thought it wasn't allowed and came to check with us, tourists are sometimes allowed to hold her but rarely and they definitely are not allowed to yank them about. We were all pretty outraged and were thinking of ways to get revenge like slapping the round the head with a dirty sloth, salvia wet, vegetable plate. Unfortunately they'd all been washed so I said that a slap round the back of the head would have been sufficient. Bloody manhandling our sloths!

Luckily I was upstairs when Primo, the main vet, came. They were going to see Gigia so I took them down, explained what was wrong, that I'd seen slight improvement etc. They've decided to move him upstairs into the ward/Judys bedroom to keep a closer eye on him. Genuinely gutted to lose him and feel pretty emotional about it! I know that's pretty lame but I've really bonded with him and when you're spending so much time with them you really bond with them quickly. So yeah pretty upset I'm going to be losing him tomorrow, I'm definitely going to make sure I can go and see him though.

Claire actually joked that I should stay here today as I'm so militant with Marcelo and always keeping an eye on the sloths etc, I was like don't tempt me! Think I will actually be devastated when I leave here.
