Where I stayed
Finally set off on the bus, it bucketed it down with rain and took 6 hours rather than 5, got by as I managed to sleep and there was a cute baby to distract me. The bus driver also tried to leave me in the middle of nowhere when I went into the shop to get some food. Thanks mate. I also fucking hate topes, we were driving up a mountain and they were everything 5 metres. ARG.
Finally arrived in S.C and headed to my hostel, it's COLD here. After super hot temperatures and humidity this is definitely a nice change! Got changed and rushed out as I only have about 4 hours to see everything. Went to see some churches, squares, markets etc, S.C is very pretty. Ended up having a complete mission afterwards, had to hunt down some tequila for the Hunts and apparently only one supermarket sells it. This would be simple enough but it was impossible to find and everyone kept sending me in completely different directions-excellent. Eventually got it and then had to get to the post office in an hour before it closed. Again, 45 minutes later (and a bazillion different directions later) I found that it wasn't open like it should be. Aimee, you owe me! Also I had to leave all of your postcards with people at the hostel as there is also no post box, so if they never arrive - you know why!
Everyone at the hostel is a bit hippyish, someone is doing a degree in peace studies...but they are all SUPER nice and the hostel was really communal. Was quite homey, they even let me have some home made curry which was really nice. I'd booked my Guatemala trip with the hostel but found out they had no space so I then had to run back into town to try and find someone to take me. Not enjoying all the excessive amounts of running around here! One of the agencies, although cheaper, appeared to be run by an extremely drunk Mexican woman so I decided to veto that one!
Went out for a drink with the people at the hostel, was fun. Had some 'pox´not the disease but Mayan alcohol aka STRONG. I would definitely stay in S.C if I had more time, the town is cool and I really like the hostel. I didn't get time to go to the coffee museum either (I'm cool I know) so there's quite a few things to do here. Off to Guatemala tomorrow - SCARY!!!
