In the early hours of this morning we arrived at the entrance to the Suez canal, we were up on deck early to watch our transition into the canal. Our ship was first in line with several ships behind us. Egypt on our port side and Egypt and the Sinai Desert on our starboard side. Egypt owns the Suez canal and controls it rigidly. A warship proceeded our entry into the canal. Along its banks are soldiers every 200 hundred metres, in towers or standing guard on shore, all heavily armed. The first 18 miles are man made, then you progress through the Bitter lakes and once again into a canal and river.Through Port Said and into the Mediterranean Sea.
Monday 12th april we are now sailing on the Mediterranean sea the weather is a little cooler and the water is a much deeper blue. Tuesday found us cruising through the Straits if Sicily with a very close up view of Mt. Etna, which managed to puff out a plume of black smoke while we passed. Life remains very slow and relaxed on board.
