The advantage to the British School Calendar is the half term breaks. Yes I will be in school until third week of July but we get these extra weeks off called half term breaks and that is this week. This time off allowed us to travel south to Bavaria. We started by leaving on Sunday and stopping at Heildelberg on the way south. The next day found us at Baden Baden. This town is located in the Black Forest (Rick Stevens) and it was a beautiful part of Germany. The Black Forest is more like foothills with narrow valleys and winding roads. At Baden Baden we spent the day at one of the mineral pools. (therme video) Throughout the Black Forest there are these Therma Baths ... Hot Springs for us in Alberta. We spent 3 hours at the hotspring and came out a little wrinkled to say the least. Oh they did have an au natural area but we didn't want to subject the other patrons to a pre Halloween sight. We spent the night in France at a hotel in Mulhouse. The next day we went to Frieburg and then through the Black Forest to Lake Constance via a little tourist trap lake called Titisee. We carried on to to Lindau which is a city on an island in Lake Constance. That has to be the best hotel that we have stayed at yet. The room overlooked the square. We spent the evening touring the town and then beer and supper at an Irish Pub where everyone spoke German and the Munich football club was on the tellie ... but they did have Guiness. Then it was a drive through the German Alps. Again something to see. Where our mountains are rough and untamed ... the Alps almost look like the lawns have been cut and the villages put there for the tourists. Sounds of Music seems like it could start playing at anytime. Then it was of to Munich and Dachau. It is hard to write about Dachau at it seems that words would just trivialize the site. But it is something that everyone should see ... maybe not necessarily Dachau but a concentration camp is a humbling and sad experience.
From there it was a 7 hour trip back to JHQ and home. Time to rest up and catch up on work and get back into a routine before Christmas holidays rrive so quickly. Oh yea we will be heading to Prague, Spain and Portugal for Christmas.

Glad you got to experience the Black Forest area....our home for the last two years. If you were in Mulhouse, you were just a hop-step from where we lived in Weil am Rhein, just across the Rhine from Basel, Switzerland. Enough said.....we miss it already.
