Right now I'm in Aswan awaiting the train for Luxor. This is
probably the best place in Egypt as I haven't been bothered as much, it
is around 25 degrees, and it has great views of the Nile River. We
took a felucca out for 1 hr on the Nile and had a pretty good time even
though the captain kept trying to sell us extra hours for the first 1/2
hour of the trip.
Yesterday, we got up at the unkind hour of 3am to go to Abu
Simbel. A huge convoy of about 50 buses was escorted by the army due
to the killing of 58 German tourists by fanatics in 1997. The Temple
of Ramses II is justifiably one of the monuments to see in the world if
you can. What is even more amazing is that UNESCO moved the whole site
a couple of hundred metres away from the rising waters of the Nile to
protect it back in the 1960s. From Abu Simbel we went to the Aswan Dam
which was... well it was a dam. We then went to Philae Temple which
was another large temple rescued from the river. I actually enjoyed
Philae more as there were less people and we had more time to explore.
