Hola.

Upon arriving in Spain we were surprised that we did not have to show  our passport or go through any form of customs.  I guess once you are in Europe this is unnecessary.

Picture Manhattan - tall buildings, masses of people, cars honking.  Now imagine you can┤t understand a word anyone is saying - you have just pictured Madrid.  We had to take 2 taxis from the airport as there was no van available.  The cab drivers claimed they didn┤t speak English.  It took us about 45 minutes to get to our hotel.  Funny thing is it only took us 20 minutes to get back to the aiport when we left Madrid.  In the taxi on the way to the hotel we spotted a TGI Friday┤s.  After we checked in we made a b-line there and ordered hamburgers.

I don┤t want to sound deragatory but we find the Spanish in Madrid to be a bit arrogant

Our first full day we went to the Royal Palace.  The rooms in the Palace were very ostentatious.  We went into the artillery museum and found that very interesting. That night we went on a ĘTapas WalkĘ.  This is where you go from restaurant to restaurant and order a drink and get little appetizers.  We found a great restaurant and stayed there for most of the evening.  The food was good,  the service fun and efficient and the crowd boisterous and fun.
The next day Steve and Nikki went to do a little shopping and sightseeing.  Randy and I took the train to Segovia.  We saw the Aqueduct and Cathedral (pictures are included).  The train ride is about 2 hours because it stops several times.  It started raining that day and Steve and Nikki got caught in the downpour on their walk back to the hotel.  We spent a quiet evening at the hotel.

Our last night in Madrid we went back to a restaurant we had seen previously.  We had been admiring their pizza.  Steve, Nikki and Randy had pizza.  Nikki had albondigas and I had paella.  Good service and good food.  On our walk back to the hotel we found an Irish Bar (leave it to Nikki and me).  We had a drink and continued our walk back to the hotel.  We had to catch the shuttle to the airport at 7:00 am the next morning .

We all agreed Madrid was fun but we are really looking forward to seeing the sun and the sea in Marbella.

Yummmmm
Sounds fun and delicious. Wish I were there.

I am slightly disappointed. From now on, I don't want to hear about you guys going to any more non-Spainish restaurants to eat. : )
