Cuba was such an interesting place...the communist regime is insane!...everyone still has rations of rice and beans and then you get only 8 eggs a month and milk up to 7 yers old...so strange...All the people are so friendly though and even offer cuban boyfriends
included in excursions! Havana was so bustling...and itś crazy to see the streets just covered in these amazing old american cars...we went in a bright purple Buick,,,seriously bumpy but so cool!
Trinidad was so beautiful and we went horse riding for the day across the mountains...the guy said it would be about half an hour on the horse and then walking for an hour, but after 2 and a half hours we began to wonder!...it was pretty scary because we were going straight down such steep rocky paths, buty we eventually reached a waterfall where we swam...so so nice!
Was super sad saying goodbye to my family at Havana airport! I arrived in Quito really late on the 4th...I stuck out so much that within about 2 minutes of leaving baggage redlaim someone ran up to me with my name on a card to pick me up. I was dropped off outside this building on such a steep hill and a woman called Rita who iīm staying with came out and showed me to my room and said goodnight. It was all quite daunting and my room was half outside in this dourtyard and there was a massive woodlouse on the floor. I quickly sorted my stuff out and just tried to get to sleep! The only voices i could here were germans and so i was a bit worried that iś be stuck in a house unable to communicate with anyone! In the morning, Rita clled up to me and after aout 10 minutes trying to find the stairs, I went up to breakfast..It was such a relief because there were 2 other english girls, an english guy and a french girl. They all seemed to find everything quite weird too thank god! Food is amazing here...every meal Rita gives us fresh juices,..that morning it was strawberry and last night we had passion fruit! Yesterday was just a kind of welcome day and so we met the other volunteers and were told about things do to....bungalow 6 tomnorrow for ladies night apparently! I started my project this morning! Getting the bus there was quite funny...there arent really oficial stops so you just have to shout when you want to get off! Iḿ working in a little community centre in the South of Quito for kids with troubled backgrounds...They are all so sweet! Today I was put with the 2 year olds so luckily ladk of vocabulary didnt matter! Thereś a really funny kid called Bryan who just goes around hitting everyone, but most of them are really cute and itś also really sad to see some who donīt really talk at all and are really nervous,.apparently weĺl get a chance to visit the families which should be really interesting...After my projest today, we had a salsa class...the teadher found us hilarious but weŕe sonsidering signing up for ths course which promises that youĺl be an incredile dancer by the end! Iḿ here for the next four weeks now and thereś so much to see around Quito. This weekind weŕe going to the middle of the world-the equator!..and weŕe all going to Baņos in a couple of weeks where there are waterfalls and bunjis and stuff!
