Where I stayed
Teak Garden Chiang Khong
After an "Aeroflot-never-again" experience (terrible food, many passengers drunk, some guys escorted out by Thai police because of smoking in the lavatory), this trip clearly is showing its ambition to get the "adventure" label.
Anyhow it was good to meet Alessio in Bangkok. He had made a good trip from Brussels with Jet Airways via India. So here we are now, starting our trip as travel buddies :)
The journey continues with a domestic flight from Bangkok to Chiang Rain in Northern Thailand. Funny, there's no 13th row on the plane, we sit in 14 and in front of us is 12. Anyways, Chicken&Rice, after a while we land in Chiang Rai.
After landing, we catch a taxi to the downtown bus station. Quite an interesting place with mainly local people and just a few tourists who got lost here. Our destination is Chiang Khong, on the border to Laos, a 2,5 hour bus ride.
A lot of sweat later (no air condition) we arrive on the border, where a tuk tuk driver takes us to Teak Garden hotel. It is beautifully located on the bank of the mighty Mekong river, which we are fortunate to have a view on from our room.

More than 24 hours awake and we are hungry! But first Bjorn is stupid enough to try a Thai barber shop for a shave...big mistake. After too much blood and an almost cut throat, the compensation package is clear : half hour foot massage!
Dinner then comes as the best surprise of the day - right opposite the hotel is a local style BBQ outdoor restaurant. Buffet style "if you know what it could be, put it on your plate and grill it". Hmmm, delicious ending of the day, tomorrow morning we hit the river!!
