Friends,

I won't go on how bad the mini-bus ride out of Semuc was, lets just say someone vomited on the way, and I'll leave it to your imagination on how bad it was.

Guatemala city airport please driver !

A few hours later and we touch down in cooler San Jose, Costa Rica....

Straight away, you get the impression this country is a whole lot more sophisticated and wealthy than the rest of Central America.

We got in pretty late, but a $30 taxi ride later ( most other cabs we've used in Central America have been around $2 - $10 ) we arrived at a pretty cool hostel. It had an Xbox 360, huge flat screen TV ( reminded me of home ) and a shared bathroom. On go the pluggers for shower time, and away we go !

Anyway, we accidentally booked the room for the day later, so our room was taken, and we bunked in the dorm, although all to ourself.

We don't like hanging in capital cities of countries, so we made haste to a beautiful region of Costa Rica called Puntarenas ( pronounced " poont your anus ").

A wonderful natural reserve, which we did a tour of the next day.

Another very enthusiastic guide, but had a good knack of taking digital photos through his spotters scope. ( picture of monkey ) We saw squirrel monkey, howler monkeys and white faced capuchin monkeys. Racoons, ( who stole a ladies bag right in front of us ) Jesus Christ lizards, the list goes on.

Rainforest meets beach...

Beth went splashing in the beach, while I slept under a tree, but watching the monkeys at all times, because they steal stuff !

That was a truly wonderful day, but the most exciting and stupid day of our trip so far occured the next day.

ATV.

All Terrain Vehicle.

Up there with snowboarding for excitement and adventure satisfaction in my books.

On Beth's insistance, we went for an ATV tour to a waterfall and the surrounding districts.

Our guide ( Chino ), asked that Beth follow him, and myself in the rear. These bad boys are capable of over 70kph ( which I can prove on my GPS ), but Beth, the mostly conservative, kept in safely on around 25 - 30kph.

Which meant, I too, had to sit on 25 - 30kph. So, as you can see by the video, I had the most fun I could have at 25kph.

That fun, would soon turn into disaster....

I decided after some time, to change the order of our little convoy only to learn that in 5th gear, 66 kph that in unfamiliar territory trying to slow down into a corner with loose gravel is not an easy task to achieve without hurting the vehicle and subsequently yourself.

I came flying into this corner at top speed, started to slide out and knew that impact was going to be severe and prayed for the few milliseconds I had, to not end up like many people before me that have either died or become seriously injured in ATV accidents.

I slid up an embankment, fell over the front of the ATV, and guess who decided to fall on top of me ?  The ATV....

Luckily, I ended up with a sore shoulder, left pinky finger and cut on my leg. A few scratches to the offending vehicle and that was the end of my dare deviling....

I'm still sore three days later... :(

Unfortunately for all, I didn't record the stack...

I do have some life time physical and mental scarring though....

Normally I need some time to get back on the horse, so to speak, but my hesitation on getting back on an didn't last long, as the next day Beth and I hired another one !

This time, as you can imagine, I was very, very tame.... but did happen across two Isreali girls who had rolled theirs !

Superman, I mean, Looch to the rescue and after a bit of faffing around, got them and their very busted ATV back home safely.

I hate to think how much money they are up for, as we were told they are $8000 a piece ! I suggested they mention to the operators that the machine was unsafe to begin with, and its just plain ridiculous that they were given bike helmets !

We, at least were given proper helmets, and I have vowed, if I get involved with these things to wear a proper helmet with the neck brace and all.

I can't rave about these things enough, they really are fantastic fun. Look closely at the video. I am smiling the whole time !

We're absolutely loving Costa Rica. There is so much to do, its ridiculous ! Much more expensive than all the countries we've visited, but this place is magic.

Love all from the souithern parts of Costa Rica. We are now heading north !!!
