"Churrascaria" means Brasilian Steakhouse and comes from the Portuguese word "churrasco"... which means 'barbecue'. It is also often mistaken for a restaurant with a LARGE variety of foods, like a buffet. The breakfast at our hotel is similar in that it serves a large variety of foods. Brasilians do not eat cereal, milk or donuts like Americans, but enjoy fresh fruit, sweet cakes, and sliced meat.

Every morning in the hotel we can enjoy 7 or 8 different sweet cakes - - containing coconut, chocolate, milk pudding, custard, lemon, or just plain sweet cake. We can also eat plenty of fresh fruit, including papaya, pineapple, banana (midget-size), mango, watermelon, and kiwi. Brasilians also enjoy drinking fresh fruit juice made with sugar cane juice. Papaya and mango are the favorite juices here. There's also some rolled meats, a type of egg, and other miscellaneous breads.

And, of course, coffee - - Brasilians love coffee but its more like espresso. Brasilians drink their coffee in very small cups and often enjoy it sweetened. They also do not wander around with a large coffee mug in their hands like Americans. They sip their coffee with friends in one spot, fairly quickly and then go on to what they were doing.

Flat Stanley says "start your day with a good breakfast!"

There's never any excuse to go to school (or work) hungry!
