We grabbed some lunch at a local restaurant & headed to the Anne Frank house. Decided it would be easier to visit on a week day rather than the weekend. There's so much history packed into that tiny space they had turned into a museum. It was surreal being in the same house that hid her and her family two years. It's impossible to think of how terrified and in dignified they must have felt. The bookcase that hid the entrance to "the annex", the walls of Anne's room covered in pictures and posters, the map her father kept of the countries being invaded by Germany... the quietness if it all was heartbreaking.
After the house we ventured to this old hidden courtyard which contained the oldest wooden house in the country that was built in 1465
Of course Ari needed another donaffle, Becca more fruit juice & Annie more fruit from the farmers market.
We stopped to take in the last minute views and sights the city had to offer before hopping on a train to Brugge, Belgium.
1. Annie got to see everything she tagged as a favorite on her lonely planet app. That's a first!
2. Becca and Ari are going on day 3 of having a "cold". Annie still hasn't caught it....yet.
3. The bikes and gezellig (feeling of coziness) unique to Amsterdam will be missed dearly.
