Well I survived my first week in Oahu! It has been a long stressful week, but the weekend made up for everything! We spent the week getting to know each other (there are about 60 of us living together, but working at 11 different camps!), sitting in orientations on the base, 4 hour director meetings, programming, poster making, and getting our sites ready for the summer.

Our housing is pretty nice. It is just barracks, but they are pretty spacious. I share with Krystina. We trained together in San Diego, she was in Germany with me last summer (but at a different part of Wiesbaden), and we ended up here together too- none of that planned. We have two beach volleyball nets outside our barracks, a basketball court, bbq and a nice grass area.

I have 2 counselors- Jake and Lindsay, both from Toledo, Ohio. We all about cried when we walked into our center. We have a huge open space and seem to be the storage place for chairs and tables. We spent some time rearranging what we had and everything turned out pretty nice. The two long walls of our building are mostly windows which is nice since we are right on Rainbow bay. It'll be even better when we do some projects with the campers and get our posters up tonight. A little color will do our building well!

Thursday, the Commanding Officer took all of us on a boat tour around Ford Island and the USS Arizona Memorial. It was really cool to go around the whole island and get more of the history behind everything that happened here in 1941.

Friday night was the first night most of us ventured off base. A group of us went to a club/bar called Senor Frogs in Waikiki. Cheered to a fun, successful summer and danced. It was a definite good times. Saturday Krystina, a couple of the navy guys who live on the other side of us and I went to Shark's Cove to snorkel and to Waimea Bay. We saw some pretty cool fish, barracudas, and a giant sea turtle. There was a rock we could jump off of into the water- so we did. We also went back to Waikiki last night to meet up with some of the other camp people, but they bailed on us. We still had a good time though!

Today we are just hanging out, relaxing, and catching up on little stuff to be ready for the 1st day of camp tomorrow!!!

Seems like it is going to be an amazing summer...already have a sky diving jump planned, some more snorkeling, kayaking, surfing, hikes, shark cage diving, and hopefully some wind surfing planned...I'm supper excited!

Miss you all and love you!
