Anyways, alongside this new feeling in the city, I realized there is now a whole new realm of possibilities in terms of things to do. Finally, instead of doing football training inside the gym we are able to enjoy playing pickup games in the citadel, a park which has also come to life with the change of season. And instead of getting bundled up to run and being the only person in the park, I am now wearing shorts and am not so lonely... Apparently the French do exercise!
So on top of this great arrival of spring, I have also been the extremely lucky and grateful recipient of a trip to go see the Vie Suisse of my dear friend Steph. All she asked was that I get myself to Paris, which I was more than happy to do. Given the fact that I had no class (a always) the day I had to get to Paris, and it is darn expensive to get there and back, I thought why not spend a day exploring the city?
At this point I have spent enough time in Paris, and France in general, that I thought I should not really feel like a tourist anymore right? Wrong. Never speak too soon when dealing with Paris. Apparently it doesn't count that I speak the language and can navigate my way through the metro. Nope, somehow I will always have giant sign saying 'tourist' attached to my body.
After ordering a cafe creme and receiving a grand cafe americain with enough lait for at least three people, and reading the damage - 5 euros - I couldn't help but laugh. It was as if somebody had read my confident mind and immediately sent me the memo: it is impossible for you to ever be a local in this city. Anyways, in the broad scheme of things, of course I can't complain. I got to spend a subdued day getting lost in one of my favorite cities, only to be followed by a trip to see one of my lifelong friends in yet another amazing location - La Suisse. Unfortunately, there I will be lucky to pay 5 euros for a coffee, as apparently Zurich is the second most expensive city in the world... On y va!
