Where I stayed
Breckenridge Inn
Chad and I felt like two over-stuffed turkeys after leaving the hot dog place. That left the impending question.... What now? We crossed the border of Kentucky (yay 49th state) and had a silent celebration. We had gotten here. Now where should we go. A look at the map and distillery operating times helped answer that question. Closed. On to Louisville!
As we approached the largest city in KY at dusk, we figured we'd best check into the hotel first. I love having a smart phone, btw. Was able to book a discounted rate on hotels.com as we rolled up there. After unpacking, we headed downtown-- to Bardstown Road. It seems this section of town is the trendy/hipster's watering hole. A bunch of cool-funky eateries, pubs, and bistros. Chad and I headed to the Uptown Cafe and struck up a convo with the aging barista. Now, I'm not married yet but I'm told that when people travel on their honeymoon they should casually inform everyone they encounter that they're newlyweds. I have the same philosophy for traveling. A quick chat with this bartender led her to pull out a bottle of delicious bourbon (Jefferson's) and give Chad and I a shot 'on the house.' Sweet. The clientele at this joint was pretty random; from college kids to borderline homeless men. Whatever, it was fun.
After that we headed to the local brewpub -- Cumberland Brewery which was right down the street. This place did not provide nearly as much entertainment nor banter as the first so we quickly downed our mediocre beer and popped over to our final joint... which I can't remember the name of.. Damn. There we saw an Irish/Dropkick/Folky band... Pretty neat.
Back to hotel for a restful night post traveling.
