Some things stay the same. Last year Bibi hosted us in KL and spent 2 1/2 days showing us around KL. Well today she and Nicole planned a day trip to the historical city of Melacca. An hour and a half drive from KL. We were away for 13 hours! These CS certainly know how to provide hospitality.
The day involved walking around the heart of this lovely city - the main shopping heart, with bustling night market, a stop to try delicious crushed ice drink/dessert in a place where people queued out the door, an historical museum, a replica of a 16th century sailing vessel - it was huge, a marine museum, and finally EATING! A street food area where we tried more of Malaysia's tempting array of food. To our great amusement, one of our group also found the food TOO hot and spicy and began sweating profusely. We take a lot of stick from our Asian CS over not being able to handle their spicy food. As we walked Nicole continually found new foods for us to sample- have you tried this???
While there we came across a fancy car display with stunning EXPENSIVE cars, from not quite vintage to the latest sports cars. And the Police were celebrating something so there were fly-pasts and police dog displays. A wonderful day.
That was Saturday.
Sunday was departure day for Paris - at 23.35. So Rachel and Emily (plus Nicole for lunch) looked after us, frequently getting us lost both on the road and walking in China Town looking for a place to eat. What else do you do in KL - but eat. Lunch was more of last night's style dinner but these hosts had learned about our inability to handle HOT!
Then to a huge shopping mall - 10 times the size of what we have in NZ, and they are dotted all over the city. More eating and drinking, ice teas and smoothies.
Then a leisurely transfer to the airport. En route we managed to sort out issues we have had with Air Asia about our cancelled flight from Paris to KL in June.
12 hours to Paris coming up - at least it will be during sleep time.
