Our last stop in Nepal was the terrai, a very low grassland with all the beasts of Nepal from tigers over rhinos to crocodiles. We arrived after the rafting trip at our hotel and were greeted and seated at the balcony of the little cafe. We were told that lunch will be ready in a minute, but after the terrific food of the rafting we just couldn't handle much more food, so we only had a soup in order not to appear unfriendly.
At the terrai we did a few safaris, one in a jeep cross country and one on the back of an elephant. That was quite fun. Actually that trip was meant to be a lookout for rhinos. We trekked through the forrest for ours not finding one rhino and returned to the hotel a bit disappointed but glad, since our butts started aching already. And there at the hotel within the complex was a baby rhino slackering around. Sometimes the good is so close...
At night time we had a barbecue and met a fellow traveller from Japan, Kentaro. He was a good laugh and we had a good time making conversation.
The next day we went on a tour on a little boat, spotting crocodiles and hearing horror stories about these beasts and also went out for a early morning bird watching tour with one of our guides.
The boss of the hotel invited us to his home one day, which was a funny story. He was one of the wealthier Nepales since he was adopted by a German. This allowed him to travel the world and he had heaps of pictures from him in front of famous building of the world. Him in front of Taj Mahal, him in front of the Eiffel tower, him in front of the Golden Gate Bridge, him in front of London Tower Bridge and so on. And we couldn't believe our eyes when we looked at one picture. It actually showed him in front of the town hall of Michelstadt, the area we are from in Germany. It was nice to see that this picture got a spot alongside the famous places of the world and we couldn't hide a certain pride.
The terrai was a nice chillout at the end of our trip, but unfortunatelly everythin had to end.
We returned to Thamel for one more day and went on shopping sprees... more rampages spending every dime we had for the nice stuff you could get in Nepal. We nearly forgot to keep the airport tax in order to get out of Kathmandu, but in the end returned from a wonderful trip to the Himalaya region.
