Our first roadtrip took us north to Fraser Island. We parked our car, swapped against the 4wd we had rented for the massive sand island and made our way to the ferry. Unfortunately the weather still was overcast and we had some rain every now and then, but the adventure wasn't less exciting because of it. I had the honors of driving the big old 4wd on the island which was really good fun. Immediately the first bump on the island was the biggest one we ever came across. Luckily the guy in front of us ran blindly into it and we saw him fly and had an easy time of slowly getting through the chicane.
The island was fascinating, sand everywhere and where else does one find a highway directly on the beach. And to make it a bit more challenging that same highway is used for planes to start and land. Only downside is that the tides determine of when this highway is usable and when it isn't. We drove around the island for the next 2 days having heaps of fun and exploring away. We camped at a lovely spot directly at the beach and as usual where up to enough nonsense. Like a stupid food bet, making me eat all the supplies we brought on to the island in order not to eat a can of beans every day until making it to Cairns afterwards. I made it.... just, but somehow I made it, although being backstabbed big time by Andreas. But Tilman's face when eating his daily can of beans afterwards made up for it.
On Fraser we went to the big lakes, went for a swim, visitied the turtles and just enjoyed ourself driving around the island.... and eating in my case.
