California Cousins When I was looking for Dad's Resting Place I began to cry. Crying and trying to navigate the fog on "Misty Mountain" was challenging to say the least.  I had to dry my eyes, lest I would go crashing into something.  Leaving Dad’s Resting place gave me tears again.  Drying my eyes and trying to tell my cousin Joel I was on the way to his house was difficult.  He understood.  I called my wife, Pauline, to express my feelings, she understood.  I am very grateful for family to understand.  We have all grown to understand to emotions of lost.  The feelings of sadness mingled with the hurt of anger are understood by my wife and my cousins.

They had prepared food for me.  I had stayed with Joel and Mary Ann Gibson for the funeral several years ago.  On the way to the cemetery, back in 2006, I told them I would be back.  This time on  a motorcycle.  Here I come!

The food was great.  Even greater was the feeling I received from my cousins, their children, and wives.  My Cousin Lou Anne’s daughter was there.  Her sense of humor will glue the most divided families. The long standing patriarch of the cousin's family, Mr. Gibson was there.  He remembered it all.  He called me "Baby Boy."  Only those that knew me as a child called me that.  It was so good to be called "Ba Boy" again.

Mark, the middle child of the clan, had acted as middle children do.  Keep everything and everyone together.  Mark was the one that looked in on my Dad.  He was also the one to connect me with him at the end.  Thank you Mark.

They all spoke of the selfish attitude of my father.  they spoke of the sayings he had, declaring he would not liquor for anyone.  He had his own vices to support.  He made sure no one asked him for money.  They spoke now with laughter and fond remembrance of a man that espoused self support.  That message was not lost on me.

James, thanks so much for sharibg your journey with me/us. My parents were divorced when I was 5 yrs old. I spoke rarly with my father over the years. When we did actually see each other, I was in my mid 30's, After all of the reconnecting small talk, he asked me for money!!! For me, that final face to face conversation was closure, We maintained communication for a while after that and eventually we lost touch. He passed away a few years ago, I think we all need to have closure of some sort.

Ann,
You're right. We all need closure and-or resolution in matters of broken relationships. It was a pleasure to share my cathartic journal. It will be edited for grammar and turned into a book form soon.
