Our welcome back to El Paso event was a rather bizarre one: actually it WAS a bazaar--an ARMS bazaar, to be specific. Because on the second day of the "Association of the United States Army's Institute of Land Warfare Shaping the Force Symposium," an annual three day gathering that takes place each December at El Paso's Convention Center, the Border Peace Presence group gathered outside to oppose this war-promoting event in our fair city. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet and greet our favorite friends in El Paso as we rejoin them for Winter 2007--Spring 2008.

Get a load of this year's AUSA symposium theme! It was "Building an Expeditionary Army for Persistent Conflict." [Sorry to say, you read that right!]

There's money to be made in killing people. It cost $750 just to attend the bazaar ($800 for late registrants like ourselves, so we took a pass on going inside.)

Remember: over 50% of your tax dollar goes to defense spending. And the annual defense budget does NOT include the Iraq War trillions. That your grandchildren will be working to repay. [Note to the Twin Cities: we're really sorry about that bridge you guys lost.]
