When I arrived in Palomas on Holy Saturday, first thing I noticed was that the Border Patrol property's flood lights were still on at 10AM. So after hauling our donated food to the Migrant Resource Center (MRC), I double-backed to talk to the guy in charge. After all, if I'm going to rant here about them, the least I should do is bring it to the head-guy's attention, right?

So after pointing out to the point man at the desk that the lights were on, I asked to speak to the supervisor. He happened to be right there and listened politely as I (politely) pointed out that this was the FOURTH time that I had asked for the lights's extinguishment and wondered if there was something I could do to facilitate the on-going resolution of this problem. He told me that the automatic switch wasn't working (duh!) and that their request to the department in charge of fixing it hadn't gotten a response yet. He thanked me for my interest. So I went on my way.

Next day, Easter Sunday, as I was checking through to re-enter the U.S. after our MRC shift, the supervisor spotted me before I spotted him. "The lights are out!" he announced to me loudly. Indeed, the lights were out that morning AND the next morning, too. (I was watching.) Paul and he jived a bit--Paul complaining to him that I leave the lights on at home [not true!] and off we went. I guess I made an impression. Thanks, Border Patrol Guys!
