Our friends Polly and Peter worked the soup kitchen in Palomas with us Sunday, but first they drove us through some of the area's beauty spots. Rock Hound State Park is one of the few places where you're encouraged to take the rocks home with you. We drove past on "Rock Hound Roundup" weekend, so the place was busier than usual.

Spring Canyon is one of their fav hiking spots. We saw the "eye of the needle" arch and the spot where later we'll get out and hike around. Rugged beauty.

Our migrant friends are forced to hike through the mountainous area of the "Three Sisters" to get into the U.S.: a very dangerous and long journey.

Finally, I post a complaint with the U.S. Border Station at Palomas: every time I've passed through at 10AM each high intensity flood light on the property is blazing away in the desert sunshine. [Anyone heard of global warming?]When I approach and politely ask why the lights are on, the 3 replys I've gotten are: 1) they joked with me, 2) they said "yeah, yeah" (and thought: "go away"), 3) they got all excited: "They ARE?? That's a VIOLATION!"

So I say to them: Three strikes and you're OUT! Yes, I'm outing you on my blog. Oh, say, can you see??? Our tax dollars at waste.
