Evo Morales is the first indigenous person to be elected president of Bolivia! I watched his inauguration ceremony and address on television. He's a good speaker and seems to like to talk (like his friend Fidel Castro) 'cuz his first talk went 1hr & 22 minutes, and so I didnt listen to his later one to the crowds outside in the plaza.

Hes a socialist and talks a lot about justice issues. Hes really big on indigenous rights and making them part of the system, instead of marginalized, especially since they are the majority in this country. I like him and hope the U.S. is not too hard on him. Every country of South America sent their president to attend. The U.S. only managed to send an under-secretary-of-state.

Personal note: I just took a "sick day," sleeping 20 hours between leaving Mizque Saturday afternoon and waking up on Sunday morning. It was a great day to be kinda sick since I just wanted to watch TV anyway and see the inauguration. Now Im back on track, refreshed and ready to go. We hope to visit a couple possible volunteer sites today.

Here's a good article from The Nation (while it lasts) for a better look at Bolivia:
