Denver - woke up - guess what – no snow, its practically a heat wave here – we didn't manage to see snow falling from the sky in Newcastle even though they had the worst weather in  history and it didn’t really snow the whole time we were there and now in Denver where we were expecting  snow (heaps of snow), there is a smattering on the ground here and there and thats about it – the second lot of thermals are still in their packets longing to be set free) it was even really sunny and quite warm today! Amazing!!!!! What do we have to do to have snow fall on us????? Tomorrow we are going up the mountains and we logged onto the weather website and guess what – no snow, no snow, no snow!!! Its also going to practically have a heat wave!!!!! Oh yeah, there will be snow on the ground but Bill and I now think snow doesn’t come from the sky and because we still believe that this is a disused movie set, its a prop and in fact, its foam and not snow at all!!!

Anyway, after Deb, Bill, DJ & I got up, we all talked non stop and caught up on about 10 years worth of news, Deb took us to the US Mint. It was really interesting, they only make coins there, not paper money. You have to reserve a place on the tour on their website (its free but you cant just rock up expecting to get in). The security was really full on – virtually nothing can be carried into the Mint including cameras, mobile phones, purses or handbags, backpacks, food, even pens, the only thing you are permitted to carry is a wallet with identification, credit cards and cash. The problem is that if you turn up with any of these, they turn you away, they don’t have anywhere you can leave stuff until you return and they advise you leave it in your car – (if you drove that is, some people turned up from a hotel and had to take all their stuff back) otherwise you cant go in. They had an x-ray machine for any small thing you were carrying and also a metal detector machine you walked through. There were no coins being pressed but we got to look at the machines (from a distance of course, no free samples) and we learnt a few things we didn’t know – if you have a dirty coin (oxidisation) you can get it clean with cream of tartar, also, the ridges on the edges of all coins is there to protect the "embossed artwork" on both sides of the coin but also the other reason is so people can stack them – never knew that.

Walked around a nice park and of course, took heaps of photos, they have some really funky buildings and structures here and definitely photo-worthy. Off to lunch at a Chinese restaurant and you could see the Rocky Mountains from there and there was snow on them (don’t worry, it will all be gone by tomorrow we are sure hahaha).

Back home and awaiting the arrival of Jeff (who coincidentally was in Chicago), we kept almost falling asleep but we had to greet him with a song – ok, lets, go back – when we first met Jeff and Debbie in Europe in 1999, Jeff was amazed that Bill (and Debbie) knew most of the words to the songs from Sound of Music and has mentioned it a few times in emails over the years (Bill and Debbie would skip down the street, arm in arm singing entire songs from the musical, it was so funny) – so, the moment we heard the garage door open, we waited by the door and burst into song with the first verse to “The Hills are alive with sound of music”! He seemed to love it – then we sat around for ages talking, laughing, joking and we had the best time, it was so good to see Jeff – he hadn’t changed – well, in fact – he has changed, he has gotten funnier! My jaw and cheeks were so sore from laughing and smiling but we had to eventually go to bed at midnight. So ends day 2 in Highlands Ranch, Denver Colorado.
