11/1/10 Barcelona

Well, another day in Barcelona, its Monday and we have decided that we are tired of talking about, thinking about crying about and getting really ticked off about the luggage situation (still not turned up) so we are now referring to the situation as "the you know what, in you know where" (which translates – the luggage somewhere in the cosmos) so as I said, the” you know what in the you know where” still haven't appeared so we have contacted our travel insurance company (never leave home without it) and they have allocated us a small amount of cash to buy “essentials” which translates to us – toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, soap, underwear & socks (as ours can just about stand up by themselves now), a power adaptor for sukoshi (woohoo) and also a battery charger for the mobile phones (lost without both of these) some more long sleeve shirts and yet another jumper for Bill as his puffy jacket is still being worn by the homeless in London’s Heathrow airport.

Clothes here are expensive and also shoes (poorer quality than Japan) and as they don’t really speak much English (or they are really good at pretending) its difficult to ask for things like underwear and thermals (they have a totally different sizing system here and I was trying M & L clothes and they only just fit so I don’t get it, sure I have put on some weight due to my illness but hey, not enough to buy L, very humiliating!)

So today’s blog will be very small compared to the mammoth encyclopaedias I have been writing because we spent most of the day trying to fight our way into shops then fighting our way through the lines and crowds, fighting our way working out sizes (there is hardly any fitting rooms and then they are packed and you have to line up) and then fighting our way outside to then do it all over again at another shop. We had to give up in the end, we took us on and won, we were exhausted and went back to the apartment to try and catch up on sleep. I felt very unwell so we stayed in and had toast for dinner, we were just too tired to move but ended up going to bed at 11pm. Jumped on the BA website only to be informed – no news on our lost luggage – just great – to add to the disgusting and tiring day, there are only about 6 power points in the entire apartment so unfortunately Bill had to plug my mobile phone in on the kitchen counter where I just happened to be washing some of our clothes in the sink (no sink anywhere else in the entire apartment) and as I grabbed a sock of Bills off the counter, the mobile phone was under it and yep, you know how the rest of this story goes – it went for a swim in the nice sudsy water – I am sure it was nice and warm in there for the entire 3 seconds it was swimming around with the clothes – unfortunately – like cats – mobiles and water don’t mix and so a fitting end to day 2 in Barcelona – please don’t bother to text me or even call me on my mobile as it is now sitting in the bottom of the rubbish bin (maybe we should just send it to the homeless people who have our luggage at Heathrow airport)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)  PS we now believe that the BA (British Airways) god is getting us back for daring to fly business class and not paying for the tickets – damn you BA, damn you!
