If you told me weeks back .. that in the middle of Ocotber 2010 .. we was gonna be riding to Barmouth where we would have been sweating our bits off.. I wud have said your off you rocker..

However after todays fab rideout.. you wud have been right!!

The rideout had been organised for a few days and I think everyone, including me was hoping for a decent day,, dry roads are all we ever ask for !!

So up bright an early this morning and the sky is grey with a few spots of drizzle in the air.. check on Met Office website and they did state, West Mids would see some drizzle, however Wales would be nice .. u think so ???

I had arranged to meet Britta and Dean in Cannock for 08.00 hours whilst everyone else was to meet us at Quatt at 09.00 hours.

We were expecting around 15 bikes.. and I did have my concerns for the numbers.. as I dont really like huge rideouts per se.

Anyway down the A5 from Cannock and the sky is still grey and we make our way to Quatt via Codsall and Britta's bike is sounding like an AK47.. we suspected it to be carb icing and / or cus shes a woman she washed the bike yesterday and prob got water in the spark plugs

So we continued hoping the problem wud sort itself out.. which it did once she had done some miles.

At Quatt and the roll call is as follows :

Lud
Sue
Taz
Dean
Britta ( in that bloody yellow jacket !! am gonna set fire to it one day !! )
Leaky
Bro V
Matboyracer
Luds mate ( on a green divvy )
Paul GSXR ( who was sporting a new 1 piece Arlen Ness leather suit.. flash git!! )
and ME !!

We rolled out around 09.15 hours,.. under a grey sky we roll out and get over to Wales..and the roads are dampish .. with Lud leading and me taking some " action shots " on the trusty camera.

Thanks everyone that made it today.. i know the start wasnt wot we hoped for .. but it def made up for it being in Barmouth under a clear blue sky and sunshine

From Quatt its down to Ludlow on the B4364.. and its time to up the pace a bit.. but with caution as the roads werent at their best due to mud.. and wet conditions.

Cracking twisty road this but everyone taking it easy due to the poor road conditions and myself and Leaky were bedding in new tyres.

I take off ( not literally ) and try to find a suitable place to stop and take a few pics!!
Love this road.. and its cracking when its dry and tyres are nice and warm.. full of twists and turns and hardly a straight bit in sight.

From Ludlow its a short hop on the A49 before hanging a left onto the A4113 to Knighton before Penybont over the moors... where the roads got even wetter and covered in mud..slip sliding on the mud not fun at all on 100 bhp sportsbikes.. ... and stone me it was bleak up there!!

On one blind bend.. everyone went over a huge patch of mud.. and everyone had a butt clenching moment.. def the topic of conversation as we regrouped in knighton lol.. so everyone decided to stick to the limit or just under.. until the roads dried out.

Penybont - Crossgates cafe for a well earned cup of tea and fag ( for those that smoke ) .. and it had looked like they had heavy rain here last night or just before we arrived.

Leaky found out, that having a can of pop in your waterproof bike jacket isnt a good idea..as the thing had burst in his pocket and he had coke flavoured jacket!! lol

Due to the poor road conditons we had a group discussion on wether to head back or continue... looking upto the sky ( as you do ) revealed the sun and blue skies breaking through..

And im soo glad we did.. more of that later... Lud was in charge again of leading the gang to Newtown on the fab A483 .. but cus it was damp we all stuck to the speed limit..

however gettin on the A483 proved abit of a puzzle as everyone ehaded off to Rhayader whilst im flapping me arms about saying come back its this way!! lol

They all came back in the end and its on the A483 to Newtown.. with its lovely twist and turns and hair pin bends..and as we nr Dolfor the roads start to dry.. the sun is warming us up and everyone is smiling ( under their lids )

Fuel up at Newtown.. and the roads are completly dry here and sun is def out to play!!

So its a nice fast blast up the A470 / A489 to Machynlleth from where we catch the lovely coast road ( A493 ) to Barmouth..which everyone loved .. with its fast twisty section,, flowing bends.. and the fab fab views of the sea on one side and Barmouth in the distance surrounded by the hills .

And now the weather was playing ball.. it was time to scrub the tyres in proper!!

Into Barmouth and its fish and chips all round... and gorra admit.. everyone looked tired.. think the sun was alot stronger than we all realised.. esp as we all set out in thermal / wet weather kit... so its grab your chips and jump into the shade of the bus shelter as we were sweltering!!

And its nearly the middle of October!! def gorra have a few more rideouts before end of the yr for sure!!

After filling our bellies and shading from the sun it was time to get rollling again.

Its back out of Barmouth and down the A470 / A458 to Dinkys diner.. a good fast road this with loads of nice bends and twisties.. but as u get to Welshpool it does become clogged and quite boringly straight... but into Dinkys for a final cuppa and say ta ra to everyone.

Now when u see a Police helicopter .. come fly over Dinkys and fly around it couple of times.. you wud naturally assume its a friendly warning.. not us!! lol

And then as u head out of Dinkys and go pass the Shell and the 2 marked Police vehicles.. you wud take that as a friendly warning also.. no not us!!

From Shrewsbury its down the Shrewsbury run to Bridgnorth via Much Wenlock and myself and Lud get pulled by a traffic car... in their opinion we took a bend coming into Much WEnlock far too quick for their liking.. and we are given some friendly advice to slow down and heed the warning..

Apparently they had just returned from dealing with a 2 person fatality on the Bridgnorth - Wolves road.. both fatalities being bikers ..

R.I.P guys I hope ur riding ur bikes up there ( wherever we end up )

Myself and Lud stuck to the speed limit all the way home.. sure does bring the message home.. it is a dangerous hobby we have.

Not the nicest way to end a really good day, with loads of fab roads.. fab scenary and fab company!!

Thank you to everyone that turned up today.. we had a good laugh and it was a cracking run !!

I managed around 250 miles in total.

1 of my best days riding of the yr for sure!!

Thanks for readin.
