After a 12 hour bus ride along with some of the heaviest snorers and wind blasters this side of the Andes, we arrived in misty Pucón. This area has been heavily populated by de Jeermins and their influence is everywhere, town layout, house design and general organisation.

We ended up staying in a blokes house for a few days, really top bloke and sound as a pound. He even cooked up a local speciality for us on New years eve:-)

This region is very pictureskew, beautiful lakes surrounded by mountains and ACTIVE volcanoes. Because of the volcanic activity there are loads of thermal springs, so we decided to visit an area one night with a crowd of fellow backpackers. It was amazing, pitch black, piping hot pools, crazy atmosphere and all at midnight in the mountains!! I felt like auditioning for the Sound of Music straight away!

Speaking of music, we stumbled on a folklore music and dance performance in the community centre. It was a show of regional Chilean dance, music and song. A great night was had by all, bums were a bit sore after sitting for 3 hours on a wooden bench, but all smiles at the end.

The next day we saddled up like the Lone Ranger and Tonto and galloped overland for 3 hours to more thermal pools. Well, to say I was pleased to see the pools was an understatement. If we thought we had creaks in our cheeks from the show the previous night, we were in for a shock. I had pains in places I didn't know had nerve endings! You could have kicked a ball straight through my bandy legs and I waddled up the lane. Now I know why Princess Anne's bake is always tripping her!

New year's eve was an absolute ball, big firework display down by the lake, a really family atmosphere. I started chinwagging to a local family and lo and behold nothing would do we had to go back to their place for a wee nip of Champers.

Long story short, we missed our bus to Puerto Varas and had to make a magical mystery tour to eventually get to the next location.

***Breaking news*** one of those active volcanoes erupted!!!!!!!

As our bus headed south Volcan Llami blew it's top!!! the place was evacuated and the emergency plan was put into action! And I thought the view out the back window was just the bus letting off bad exhaust fumes:-)

Next place for us to inflict ourselves upon........Puerto Varas/Puerto Montt
