Well we both eventually found jobs and an apartment in Fremantle.
Spencer has been laboring on a building site and while I don't think he would want to do it forever I think he does enjoy it most of the time (apart from when he has to work outside in 40 degree heat)!
I have 2 part time jobs - I work in a pub as a barmaid and as a waitress in a restaurant. Again I don't think I could do it forever but it is something different and can be fun sometimes.
We've also managed to get ourselves a really nice apartment in Frematle. It is 2 minutes walk to the beach and 10 minutes into town. It really is perfect and we have enjoyed many nights sitting on the balcony enjoying the odd glass of wine and watching the world go by.
So for the first time since we arrived we have been working and living like real Aussies. The only break we had was when our friends from home Duncan and Ben came out to see us for 2 weeks. It turned out to be the funniest 2 weeks ever!!
We managed to fit in so much but the time just went far too quickly as there were so many other things we wanted to do with them.
It got of to a bad start as they arrived at and got straight on the booze. They were drunk by , play fighting on a busy park by 12am, feeding seagulls in a restaurant with 'Please don't feed the seagulls' signs everywhere at 1, disgracing themselves on the beach at 2, refused a drink at 3 and passed out by 4. Absolute disgraces!!!
While they were here we got the Ferry over to Rottnest Island which is absolutely lovely. The beaches are beautiful and the boys enjoyed snorkeling while I soaked up the sun on the beach. We also saw a Quokka while we were there. These are a cross between a rat and a kangaroo and only live on Rottnest.
The boys also went on a 5 day trip up to Exmouth to go diving with the Whale Sharks. It was a really long drive for them, 17 hours in one day and 14 on the way back. But they had a fantastic time - they went snorkeling and unfortunately did not see any Whale Sharks but did see around 40 Manta Rays, turtles and Sea Snakes. The next day they went Big Game Fishing, Ben and Duncan both caught fish but Spencer didn't even manage to drop a line in the water the whole day as he was too busy being sick from being hung over and sea sick!! Way to go Spence $180 to be sick all day (I don't think they could keep up with the Aussie Sheilas they met the night before)!!
They had a brilliant time anyway and when they got back we all went on a winery tour to the Swan Valley. This was a brilliant day - very boozy but fun. Spencer was misbehaving and told he'd have to walk home if he didn't stop drinking on the bus. (He hasn't changed)
We did loads of other stuff while they were here too we went to a wildlife park (Duncan and Ben loved the kangaroos), went into Perth city and had the traditional Aussie BBQ.
It was sad to see them go but I think they both had a great time and we were so glad they came over.
All in all we are really enjoying living in Fremantle. It is definitely a different way of life to living at home even though we are both working. We have the beach on our doorstep and the sunshine everyday.
The only bad thing about Perth seems to be the amount of Speed cameras and Traffic Police. We seem to be getting a fine every week or rather Spencer has. How he can get a speeding fine in a 20 year old camper van is beyond me.
Well we have Spencers mum Janet coming out to visit us in a weeks time so we are both really looking forward to seeing her and can't wait to show her our new temporary home!....
