We discovered today that the schedules for Greek Ferries are very rough guides and should never be taken seriously.

After waking up at the sunrise to try and take some nice photos I was driven back inside with little success by the wind. We then got a transfer to the ferry terminal were we left our bags and had a lazy morning trying to shelter from the wind.

Our ferry was meant to depart at 2:30pm and we were asked to be there at 2. However no ferry by the name on our ticket was around. We asked and were assured this was the right place. By 2:30pm no ferry had appeared and at 2:45pm there was an announcement saying that our ferry would arrive at 3pm.

Sure enough spot on 3pm a large catamarang-style ferry arrived and everyone queued up and waited for the passengers to disembark. The sight of some passengers throwing up into sick-bags made us realize that the seas were not just rough around Mykonos.

Finally we made our way up the steps to the ferry but on checking our tickets we were told that this was not our ferry, but we had to wait for the next one. So we had squeeze past all the people behind us and noticed that quite a few other people had made the same mistake as us.

So we sat for the next hour and half before finally at 4:30pm our ferry arrived. Luckily we could sit indoors this time, and they even had a movie showing. But the rocking of the sea meant there was no chance I could watch, and had to just try and sleep so as not to get too sick.

What was meant to be a 3hr ride turned into 4 and half and we only arrived in Santorini at 9pm. Megan was quite specific where she wanted to stay, but did not like any of the offers from the people waiting at the station. But after realising there were not taxis we finally accepted a place for one night.

Dreadful
I always pictured sailing around the Greek islands as idyllic. I guess not...
