We rented a car in Venice and headed south to Tuscany to spend 7 days in an apartment that is in an "Agritourismo". This term seems to mean farms that have been adapted to also accomodate tourists and there are squillions of them across the country.

The only downside to our place was......CHILDREN. Clearly families come to these places so their kids can run wild in perfect safety. Our neighbours did make a clear effort to try to contain their little ones after I used international gestures to convey that they could not stand in our windows and scrape their balloons to make squeaky sounds at us.

Our 'farm' was just south of the small town of St Miniato. We used this as our base to visit: Lucca, Pisa, San Gimignano, Volterra, Sienna, Florence, and numerous hamlets we happened across when driving around. Driving was easy and we were very happy with the location. The Cinqueterre was our only desired trip that we didn't make since it was over 2 hours driving each way (which could have been done but wow what a long day it would have been).

Views views views were the main attraction. Every time you turned your head there was a picture postcard. Our accomodation produced table wine and had fields of sunflowers and grapes.
