We left Calgary and went to Banff.
Along the highway we passed many signs saying look out for bears but we never saw any. We did see Elk (these are like wild reindeer) climbing on the rocks. We stayed in a brilliant place where we had our own little cabin looking out onto woods, but there was also a pool with water slides which were amazing.
On our first afternoon we went for a little drive ( about 5km from Banff) and WE SAW BEARS! A mummy grizzly bear and 3 cubs. They darted out of the trees down the hill from the road, but they did not hang around long enough for a photo! On this same drive we saw mountain goats and sheep - which were hard to tell apart so Daddy named them shoats or geep, more Elk, and some little mountain squirrels and chipmunks.

The next morning we got up and went for a swim. Me and Millie went down the slides lots of times whilst mummy and daddy sat in the hot tub. We did have some races down the slides.
Later we went to Lake Louise, and on the way we saw another bear on the hill next to the road. This was a male Grizzly  - we met a bear ranger who told us all about the bears. He was number 8 bear and was 6 years old. This time we got a photo!

Then we walked around Moraine Lake, which is a lake fed by glacier melt water and sediment deposits ( mummy says!). It was an amazing green blue colour. It was very pretty and was surrounded by mountains and we saw some glaciers. There was still snow on the mountain tops. [Pictures coming soon]

And we went on the Banff cable car up to the top of Sulphur Mountain. The cable car went fast and was very high up. There was amazing views of all the surrounding mountains. We walked along the broad walk up to original weather station - which is a hut that a man used to walk up the mountain to record weather from about 1920. It would be a very long walk without the cable car!

The next day we drove through the mountains to Jasper national park - here we went on an amazing bus with 6 huge wheels. This drove us out onto the top of the Aca..... Glacier, which is part of the Colombian Ice-field. It was very different to be standing on the ice which was as thick as the height Eiffel Tower in places.
We drank some of the glacier water which we were told should make us younger. Mummy and Daddy drank lots!

Mummy and Daddy always drink lots! Love keeping up to date with your adventures - still very jealous. Have you found your boots knickers? xx

What beautiful scenery. Much more exciting that the dull grey day starting outside my window. Glad you are having such a wonderful time. You'll need to drink a lot of that water if you really want to become young ... about 35 yrs worth I guess :)

Bring us back some Glacier water if it shows signs of working. Elizabeth has just read all 12 days in one sitting. Absolutely rivetted. Will now be following regularly so keep up the entries. Mx

Hi Rossners. Wow, great photo of No 8 bear. Was he a brown bear or a black bear? I hear the black bears are brown... just to confuse us all. Jesper thinks you went to Lake Jesper, not Lake Jasper and he's keen to go and visit it too after seeing these beautiful pics. Keep sending us the news. At last we have summer here in London but Little Venice Canal is not as pretty as the blue glacier lake. We look forward to your next destination. J, J and Mxx
