Alright...now I'm finally back up to date...

Jacqui got back home from her trip to VA on the 6th, I got back from Pensacola and Atlanta on the 8th, then at 2pm on the 9th, Hollywood Limo came and picked us up at the house to take us to the airport.  Needless to say, we were a little harried getting packed up and out the door.  The driver was new to the company, and had never driven to JFK before.  He was a trucker before, so he knew his way around NYC, but only on the routes 18-wheelers could drive.  So Jacqui and I had to give him some input on which turns to take.  I had cut it a little close on timing the driver to pick us up.  We had a 19:10 flight, and the quickest it takes to get from our house to JFK is 3 hours.  I had checked to make sure there was not a Yankees or Mets game, and luckily there were no accidents.  As it was, by the time we got checked in, through security, and to the gate, there was only ~45minutes until boarding.  That 45min could have been taken up by just one NYC traffic jam.  Note to self...remember to add fluff time (I normally do).

So this time, we were flying Qantas across the world.  I like to fly Delta whenever possible because of my status with them...plus, it would've been awesome to use my upgrade vouchers to get us business class seats around the world.  But Delta stopped flying to Australia.  So now we've signed up with Qantas.  Actually, considering that we're flying literally half way around the world, the price wasn't half bad.  Jacqui's ROUNDTRIP ticket cost me ~$2700 after the $400 in taxes and fees.

The flight itself wasn't all that bad.  The seats are what you expect for regular economy.  Meals are ok.  The attendants were all really nice.  What made the trip better though was my new Bose Noise-Canceling headphones.  The battery lasted the entire JFK-Sydney trip.  I had given Jacqui a knockoff pair of noise-canceling headphones that I'd gotten on a business-class Delta trip.  It could be worth it to get another pair just for her.  We'll have to see how many Amex cash-back gift cards we get after this trip.

Shameless capitalist plug - > I highly recommend the American Express Clear, pay it off like a regular credit card, high credit limits, and 1% cash back on all purchases from $0-no limit.  The only downside is that you get your 1% back as $25 Amex gift cards.  So you have to spend $2500 before you get a card.  They keep track of how much you spend though, so if you spend $1500 one month and $1000, the next, they'll send the gift card as soon as that $2500 barrier is reached.  Just thought I'd let ya'll in on what we're using now for all our travel needs.  P.S.  If you spend in multiples of $2500 ($5000, $7500, etc) They will send you a gift card corresponding to that 1%.  So 1 $50 or $75 card instead of multiple $25 cards.

Back to travel writing...  So we arrived in Sydney at about 8am Monday.  We never set foot on earth for Sunday.  That's kind of weird.  But on arrival, some idiots had booked their connections only an hour or so out from the scheduled arrival.  I learned my lesson on that the first time.  I try to have at least a 3 hour layover on international arrival to domestic departure.  There's immigration lines, customs lines, waiting at baggage claim, switching to new terminals(usually), rechecking in, and domestic security.  So we didn't have any problems because our scheduled flight was for 11:30, but I doubt some people made it since we had a delayed arrival.

We flew into the town of Wagga Wagga and got picked up by my coworker for the drive to Tumut.  I'll write more about Tumut in the next post.
