Headed down to Poole in Dorset to take the fast ferry to Guernsey. Another beautiful day made the drive really easy.  We tried to find a Laundromat in Poole where we could drop off some laundry to pick up on our way back through.  There's not a single Laundromat anywhere near the ferry terminal in Poole!  And I asked at a B&B if they would do laundry for us and was told no.  So we had to change our plans and pack our laundry to try to find a place in Guernsey to do it.  Which would mean we'd lose some time on the island to laundry.

The fast ferries on Condor are HUGE catamarans!  And I went and stood outside while we were moving and I couldn't stand the chill with the wind.  Which is impressive because I have the skin of a polar bear.

We made it to St. Peter's Port in Guernsey just fine and walked to the Sunnycroft Hotel.  When I read off the address, 5 Constitution Steps, I was thinking that maybe it was like the Steppes of the Mongolian wilderness.  Nope...it was steps as in staircases.  The town is NOT handicap friendly.  Our hotel was up enough steps to give me a little bit of a sweat.  Good thing we packed light (relative to our normal amount).  The hotel though was pretty nice and the front desk woman is GREAT.  She offered to do the laundry for us when I was asking for directions to the closest launderette.  HOW COOL IS THAT!!  She saved us from having to wake up early do laundry before the ferry to Jersey tomorrow!  The room we had was small but well appointed.  It had a desk, a fair sized bed and an in-suite bathroom.  We also had a balcony with a view, shared with the other rooms in that section but still a good view.

We relaxed out on the balcony while figuring out what to do for dinner.  We chose a place called L'Escalier...partly because it looked like they were close by, and partly because they offered a 7-course set dinner.  The dinner was excellent, and we decided to get the wine course to go with the dinner, for 55GBP/person for 7-course dinner with paired wines.  The dinner was so good that we forgot to take pictures of a lot of it.  The chef is actually starring in his own TV show on BBC.  It's called Blagger's Banquet.  Sounds like an interesting concept.  You can try to download the shows on itv.com

Most of the way through the dinner, we met a couple who live on Guernsey, Phill and Carole.  They shared stories, wine, liquor, and their house with us.  We'll have to give them a call when we get back to Guernsey again...and I do owe them an apology for making a mess of the bathroom.  They're heading out to Brazil soon, so we got to give them some pointers.  Yeah, so it was a good night...even if it was only a few hours in Guernsey.
