Today was a great day was a good day to be in the sun...and yesterday wouldn't have been half bad for it either, except for having to work.

Today, Jacqui, Christian and I made our way to this little out-of-the-way place called Pousada do Tucunare. It's a hotel, waterpark, eco-park all rolled up into one place. First though, let me tell you about the drive.

You start off on an excellent highway(Brazilian standards) from Tres Lagoas. Then you turn "off the paved road" and head down a path for about 5km. This path also happens to flood profusely(even if it hasn't rained for 2 days) and is covered in lombadas(speed bumps) the size of the car, which makes for getting good air in the little Fiat. I'm gonna try to upload a video of the Fiat going puddling...

So then you finally get into the park, and the first thing that happened was a guy came up and put a big macaw on my shoulder. Now the poor bird had a broken wing, so he didn't like to be touched, but he liked to perch. So that's what he did on Jacqui, Christian, and me. At one point, there was smaller green parrot being passed around too. Friendly birds and made for a good photo opportunity.

Then we spent the rest of the day in the waterpark. Granted, there were only two slides, and the lazy river didn't connect all the way through. But we still played some water volleyball. Also got to watch as a guy(apparently the one who owns the land) tried to herd his horses and a bull around the water park to a holding pen. Don't normally see a bull being walked near that many little kids, but hey, it's Brazil!

Now we did miss out some. I was disappointed that the zip line into the lake was closed. Apparently there was an "accident" a little while ago and they haven't let anyone ride it since. Also, there were supposed to be jet skis to rent to ride on the lake...and there weren't any there. The guy at reception said that there were supposed to be...but weren't.

Oh, and the restaurant there is pretty good. They had an all-you-can-eat buffet that was good. Costs R$23 pp. Apparently this was the 3rd choice of places for our company's personnel to stay... It would have made for a helluva fun drive to work every morning, but because its out of the way, would have gotten annoying over 3 or 4 months.

Now on to fun stuff. I just found out on Saturday about a new type of travel experience called Competitours that is similar to the TV show The Amazing Race, but isn't quite as hectic. Also, you get to choose the "tasks" you complete on your tour so you still get to choose exactly how much you see and do. I'm interested in going on the Standard trip which starts July 9th and goes through the 23rd. The price isn't bad, and if you win, the prizes are pretty good too. Steve Belkin, the President of Competitours will even answer your emails if you have questions about this.
