San Francisco ctd....Feb 2nd and then Feb 3rd...

The next adventure started Friday evening actually (Feb 2nd) as plans changed.  Originally, I was set on taking the BART down south to Fremont (last stop) and would be picked up by my friend Vivek to spend the evening with him and his family.
So after the walking food tour, I went back to the Gills' house and packed for the evening as the plan was to spend the night with the Sharmas down in Milpitas CA.  Before that, I was off to visit with Josie, thanks to Jovy who gave me a ride over.  Josie had moved with Intel last year to the US to work from APAC and had just moved into her new house in Bernal Heights, SF the week before.  It was really good to see her again and trade catch up stories.  Her dogs, Kenla and Martini, (golden lab and german shepherd) were looking well and just as soppy as ever with visitors!  When Kenla wants to go out, he puts one of Josie's shoes in his mouth and brings it to her :)  When we went hiking in Hong Kong, Kenla would run ahead but he would always turn around after a while, to make sure we were following. He is such a cutie - I'd love to have a dog like Kenla.  Must say I really liked Josie's neighbourhood/main street - they say Bernal Heights is what Noe Valley was like circa 20 years ago.  We had coffee at a nearby place with Jovy as well before Jovy had to go.  Josie and I then moved on to an Italian restaurant/bar down the road and had a glass of Californian syrah - nice.

Josie dropped me off back to the Gills house and I made plans to get on the BART.  But plans had changed by the afternoon that day - Jovy had to work over the weekend in order to start her maternity leave per doctor's orders even though she's not due until the end of the month, so she nor her family could make it to Monterey on Saturday.  She very generously offered her car for me to drive :)   I have to thank Jovy again because driving it was a great way to get down south on Friday evening instead of taking the BART, and then over to Monterey and back on Saturday.  So I called the Sharmas re change of plans and later arrival time and some directions.  I did write them all down but driving on the wrong side of the road and reading directions in the dark and looking for signs didn't seem that easy!

Got the into the car and tried to get the car to reverse.  Little dramas...first of all, I've not driven a BMW manual before, so starting the car was a mystery.  After a few unsuccessful tries, time to go back into the house and look for Jovy and get instructions....ah, press foot on the clutch to start the car.  Voila!  Next,  how to put the car into reverse....it didn't feel like the gear was locking into R...and yep, I was right., it was actually in first as I found out! Parked on a slope, I was in first gear and therefore had rolled downhill to kiss the car in front....errrrrr....cringe...looked up and around.....okay, car owner not coming out with a stick...try to get car into reverse again...success....good look at car bumper in front...and BMW...all good...phew.   Took a few minutes to re-read directions with head down....and in the next minute when I looked up, the car in front of me had miraculously disappeared!  Free space to get the car in to first gear and drive!  After that, I easily got onto the 280 Highway, driving south and never looked back, or got into reverse again either until the next morning!

Found the house without too much fuss... or consulting the directions too many times.  It was so nice to see the Sharmas again, and since I had not seen Thaarini since she was a baby, she's now a very big girl for 18 months!   I think it's the American diet that agrees with Thaarini vs Naman who had spent most of his time in Hong Kong and India recently ;) (See photo)
