Koh Samui (Feb. 21-23rd)

We flew into Koh Samui from Chiang Mai with Emirates Airline which was pretty sweet. We got our own personal screen with a broad selection of satelite music, t.v. channels, movies and games. We were able to get a bungalow for 400 baht (approx. $12 CAD) which was pretty good because most of the places were were looking at were 1000 baht and up. We loved the named of our bungalow.."Matlang" was the name. There is a high concentration of fancy resorts and restaurants along the beach and bunch of old men in speedos and saggy boobed women walking topless on the beach. The people are super friendly and welcoming. It definately made it a more enjoyable experience. We had BBQ tuna and red snapper with baked potatoe and salad for less than $6 each and that was eating on the high-end. We saw a lot of local Thai guys selling what we thought were embroided table cloths or bed sheets...but what they were 'really' selling was weed. They'd have the sheets draped over their arm and a bag of weed underneath them or in their backpack.

Koh Pha-Ngan (Feb. 23rd-28th)

We stayed near a beautiful beach on Koh Pha-Ngan called Haad Yao, the nicest beach on the island. Our bungalow was on the mountain on the other side of the street from the beach. We had a deck with a hammock and a gorgeous view of the ocean. We went snorkeling on the first couple of days and got fried big time by the scorching sun. We also got to pick up a couple of games of v-ball on the beach before sunset. On the third day we met this cool guy named Fadi on the beach. We ran into him later that day in Thong Sala, the city center and had dinner together. We also ran into one of our business Advisors from SFU and talked with her for about an hour. We hung out with Fadi for the next couple of days. We scootered around one day and ended up having to taxi back at night. The taxi driver's girlfriend rode our scooter back for us because there were so many steap hills we didn't want to risk. Needless to say...she had a little accident herself and our scooter got damaged. We tried covering it up by bringing it into the body shop the next morning but the owner noticed the scratches and we had to pay the extra charges. Oh well, better having the scratches on the bike rather than us.

Koh Tao (Feb.28-March 4th)

Koh Tao was the most beautiful place we've been to. We met up with Diana's friend Jamie and she became our new hang out buddy. We did a snorkeling tour and were so excited because we were supposed to visit Shark Island to snorkel with sharks but the waters were too rough that day. We skipped Shark Island and spent more time on some of the other smaller islands where the water was calmer. Besides feeling like puking after the boat ride, the fish and corel were beautiful. We visited this privately owned island called Nang Yuan, were we had to pay $3 CAD to get in but it was worth it. It was everything you'd dream paradise to be like. White sand and crystal clear waters...the most beautiful blue and emerald colored water you could ever imagine. There's a sand bar you can walk along that connects three islands to together.

We stayed in a bungalow called Blue Wind Bakery. It has the best breakfast combos ever! You get a couple of fried eggs, ham, croissant and coffee or tea for about $2.30 and they bake their own croissants so they come out hot and fresh. We were starting to really miss Western food so we were eating a lot of it during the last week. We and Jamie went out for authentic Italian pizza and wine one night and a couple of restaurants that played movies after 6pm. One night we just went for drinks at this funky lounge that had bean bags for you to sit or lay in. We all just layed there for over an hour looking at the stars or shutting our eyes and listening to the music. On our last day we rented a Kayak for an hour and half and ventured out around the island. We came back just before sunset and made this awesome sand castle.
