This morning on our first stop, Mom decided to get up close and personal with some bushes but quickly retreated, as some of the plants starting stinging and she started developing a rash. She had to spray some Bactine on both legs, her right arm and her left hand -- just call her the Bactine kid!

We ended up going about 46.5 miles today!!  We did most of it from 8 am-1:30 pm we were really screaming this morning.

In the afternoon when we stopped on E. Kirby Rd at local market to stock up. I think it was a ShurFine.  If you folks are out there, correct us with a comment and we'll fix it.  Emily was really tired and stayed laying on the grass outside the store while we went in.  Apparently she just conked right out.  They made us the most amazing sandwichs -- huge and yummy.  The manager told us how to get to a little island just down the road where we could eat, rest and hang out during the heat of the day.  What a gift, as we never would have discovered it on our own.  Anyway apparently while we were inside shopping several customers had come in the store concerned about the girl stretched out on the lawn.  Some thought she might even be passed out!  The manager told us, "Don't forget to take the girl on the lawn with you when you go".

The park on the island is going to be beautiful when the town is done working on it.    We sort of took over the pavillion.  We streched out our mattress pads to sit on to eat and then took naps.  Carmen took out her sleeping bag for the sun to dry up the moisture.  A cop drove by and looked at us weird and drove off, Alexis thinks some one thought we were squatters and called the cops.

We got chased by two more dogs, too! The only ones that seem to chase us are black ones.
Alexis sang to us again, this time it was, "House of the Rising Sun".

Singing
Alexis, Since you like to sing, ask your mother to teach you the bicycle song. It starts like this....Well she was headed down the road going 90 miles per hour, when the sprocket on her bicycle broke.... Carmen can fill in the rest. Hope you had a peaceful nap Emily.... the gatorade must have fermented for you to get drunk like that. ha ha

Love Pookie

Small town life
It's amazing how people in small, somewhat isolated communities react to things they are not accustomed to, like, a family riding bicycles.....I mean, it's not like you're selling 'hair of the dog' on a soap box in the corner of a seven-eleven with snakes wrapped around your necks...!! Ah, I love what is referred to as The North Country....was 'Dueling Banjos' playing in the store? I hope no one was bitten by the black dogs! Good luck on Day 6.

Something to talk about...
46.5 miles Wow! Boy, you certainly gave those folks in Sackets Harbor something interesting to talk about at the dinner table and gas pump. I can just hear them now 'Those Yankees can be a bit unusual'.
Safe travels on your last leg of your journey. Meg
