There is a boat trip to the India's famous Basphalt rock island.
We started around 9 but we reached only by 11.. There was a turn of events. at the gates of the harbour the security guard told us that there is some union "fight" happening so it is not safe for any vehicles to travel. What a disappointment.. my kids and me were all excited about a boat trip in Arabian sea.. but :( . We had to back out.
After say 10 mins.. I told my hubi to take a look again on foot. There is soemthing really "fishy" here. My guess was correct. that security just to collect some cash was trying to send us away. Ok so first step cleared. Then a queue for the cruise ticket ;) . The wait was very long here because the next boat had to accomadate atleast 30 people and we were the first 6 .
Be careful with kids around this corner.. fall into sea is very easy !
Around 2 we were about 30 people. Yahooo... all set for sail. After a narrow water way.. we flowed into the sea..we could see Malpe island from far. it looked exactly like all the island drawings I have ever seen.. some cocount trees , black rocks and of course very small in size.
here comes the best part -- in the sea.. almost very near to Malpe.. we had to change boats. wonderful - kids enjoyed this jump. Malpe here we come... After we reached the island , the group dispersed. it was like having the shore to ourselves. The ride was for about 1 hour.
Here we see the rocks - they look like somebody had taken great effort to cut them vertically. Basphalt rocks.. Indian's only cries the tourism hoarding.
Of course after a lot of photos. we decided to venture into the island. In the middle of hte island was the fish store. we are veges.. so no use of these stores. The other side was entirely different from what we saw !
The beach didnot have sand.. it was all broken shells. and like in some foreign location had rocks near the sand. Immediately we all reached the rocks.. photos session. We were all pose-ing for hte camera when one big wave pushed us out of the rock.. it filled the whole place ! one of itz kind experience.
we wanted to stay back more. My kids didnot want to leave too.. unforutunately the last pick up boat had arrived. With heavy heart and a promise to come back we bid farewell.
Just some of my observations :
1. keep aside one full day for this place. That would include to and from Mangalore + wait for the boat + queue for tickets.
2. Carry your food - there is one dungeon shop selling chips , juice etc. not a very clean place and we found some paper floating inside the juice !!
3. lot of sun screen lotions
4. howmuch ever drinking water possible.
5. If I remember correctly the boat tickets were 80/- per person.
We were very late when we reached Mangalore. Then we had to vaccate the rooms and start on a dangerous ride through the ghats back to Hassan [where our rooms were booked] We reached around 11pm there !
