Hello Everyone

The Capital city can only be described as Magical.
Does anyone know what D.C. stands for in the name Washington D.C.?
scroll down for the answer....
jokes.. it stands for the District of Columbia. They say that we learn something new everyday ....lol.

The weather was a stunning 25 deg and we decided that we would take our map and WALK to all the sites. We started at the Martin Luther King Jr Memorial Library which houses one of the biggest collections of books on the world. Our next stop was the Smithsonian Institution which is a huge museum of modern art, we then walked through China Town, then past the Bank of America.... we eventually got to the white house. We weren't able to go close up to it but we got to walk along the fence that encloses the enormous gardens that surrounds the White House- it was pretty cool. It must have been our lucky day because President Bush decided to come home in his helicopter while we were there..... unfortunately we didnt get to see him but we saw the presidential Helicopter- pics are enclosed. The next place was the Washington Monument which is better known as the needle, then the WWII Memorial- which was absolutely stunning and moving- I will put a picture because words can't begin to fully describe the essence of it. It was erected to commemorate the soldiers, navy officers and those in the Air force that died in their fight for "Freedom". Leading on from there we walked alongside the pond of reflection to the Lincoln Memorial, it is made out of Marble and is surrounded by patriotic quotes.. it's "wow". The next stop was the Jefferson memorial and then we took a very very long walk to the Capitol Building... we had to make about 2 pit stops because as you can imagine our feet were killing us and the sun gave us a pretty good tan to take back to London. The Capitol Buildings are more magnificant than you can imagine.. its beautiful and certainly a true icon of the USA. This is just a shortened list of all that we saw on our stay there... hope that you enjoyed it.
