Today was an amazing day and a great end to our ten day
vacation! Let me explain why. We started off our day by visiting the famous
Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia. This museum was absolutely
breathtaking and I can say it was by far our favorite museum on this trip. We
were able to see the original famous painting by Pablo Picasso, Guernica, 1937.
This powerful painting is displayed in a large room all on its own, its
dimensions are about 11ft by 25.6 ft. You can truly feel the sorrow and devastation
that was felt during that time. We continued to visit several other original
painting of some of our other favorite artists such as Dali, Sanchez, and Miro.
This museum is truly magnificent and is a must see if you are ever in Madrid!

From the museum we made plans to meet with two of our friends, Ruben and Alicia,
that we met during our trip two years ago to Venezuela. We met them in a part
of Madrid called La Latina, which holds a market every Sunday rain or shine. It
was quite funny that Ruben informed us that in addition to stands selling
clothes, etc, people even take out things from their home that most of us would
throw away, and try to sell it for anything they can get! Next within the
market they took us to a pickleing shop, that had tons of vegetables soaking in
vinegar (eggplant with peppers-which we tried, olives, cucumbers, onions, etc.)
then we made our way to the oldest, dirtiest, local bar in this area. Nihar had
the usual cerveca and me the usual vino rojo. It truly was a dirty place that
was packed with a lot of people but they are all so friendly it was no problem.
After our snack we made our way to their apartment. Alicia and Ruben were very
generous to have us over for a delicious lunch. We were very lucky to taste
some of Ruben's homemade tortilla de coliflor and salmorejo; it was delicious!
After lunch we made our way back to our hotel to grab our luggage and head
straight to the train station for our departure back to Barcelona. We had an
amazing time on our tour of southern Spain and we would definitely recommend it to all of you!! Now back to our
apartment in Barcelona and sadly back to work for Nihar!
